Is THIS the reason we\'re not running any option?

Just wondering.....

Frankly, I don't have strong feelings re: BOB, good or bad. One reason is because its so hard to get a true read (IS he more like the BOB of Seattle bowl, or is he the BOB of 2002?).

This is what I do know:
-> He seemed very anxious to get out of town after last year. Either to the Vikes or to ND depending upon when it was (or should I say, how close to recruiting season, but I digress).

--> I think we all agree, based on a number of factors, that he is highly ambitious, thus would likely desire a HC job or perhaps a OC job in the pros.

--> Back to the option - which, lets face it, is the cornerstone of the Fridge offense - certianly a big part of it, even if a decoy, or something to confuse the Defense being faced.....
*** Is it possible that BOB doesn't want to be "labeled" as an Option (primarily) oriented OC, thus perhaps making him less desirable as a pro OC ?

Maybe this is a stretch...It just seems that the few times we ran it vs UNC it worked GREAT - wound up with lots of yards the few times we ran it...Plus, just the change-up alone might have thrown off Wake a few times - would at least have given them something to think about.....

Just food for thought

I don't know why BOB is not running the option. I do know that by ignoring the option he is keeping this offense from realizing its potential.
I don't want to hear that our Q.B.s cant run the option. If a High school QB can learn the option game then so can AJ and D'Bo. They both have more than enough speed to run effectively. Heck Goose ran a TD on an option play.
My point is the option can help expose potential weaknesses in the defense and give the offense a whole lot ofadditional plays and formations to work with.

I don't think so. In 90, we ran Jones with the option so much that even I knew it was coming at the age of 14. Fridge was the OC at the time, and went on to help the Chargers to a Super Bowl as OC. Granted, Ross took him, but still. I think that proves the point that a good offensive mind uses ALL the weapons at their disposal.

I doubt BO'B is refusing to run the option for the purpose of career advancement. The job of a coordinator is to call plays that best utilize his players while presenting matchup problems for the opponent. If he is successful at that job, then the career advancement will come regardless of the plays being used.

I think AJ and DBo are having trouble running the option. AJ has been getting the most practice reps to this point and hopefully he's trying to improve on the other aspects of the game - and he's not really your prototype option QB. DBo may or may not be successful running the option - he has the athleticism to run it but he'll need the practice time to learn how to run it effectively. If it's not run effectively, then bad decisions will either become turnovers or put you in 2nd and long situations.
