and how he is still able to still lure in potential recruits, when all signs point to him either retiring or getting fired in a year or so...One of his former assistants that just went to UT said as much, said that Spurrier was soon to be retired.

It looks like he may snag Conner Shaw from us, hopefully not. How can any reasonable thinking recruit believe Spurrier will be there the 4 or 5 years they commit to SC. ? Spurrier has been a thorn in our side the last few years in recruiting. :wow:

If we lose Shaw, it won't be to the chickens. Spurrier is like that really dumb hotchick you'd like to "date" but would never consider marrying.

According to HD, which admittedly is not the gospel, Shaw has narrowed his choices to SC and GT.

Listen, if I was 18, young and dumb again, I'd consider going to USCeast if they were willing to foot the bill. I wouldn't learn a single thing, but I would have a blast doing it.

I hope the kid makes the right choice and comes here, as I honestly believe that GT is better choice for everything other then a college party lifestyle.

If the kid wants to play with Cocks, let him go. He can be the focal point of the offense there at QB and run the spread, which he excels at.

Just let it play out. He's not a huge need for us and he probably wouldnt play until his jr year or so..

Spurrier has an undeniable "rock star" persona about him, but is surprisingly low key, outwardly concerned and charming when he makes one of his home visits. I was present some years ago when he recruited Terry Dean and by the time he left, Terry's mom was just about clearing a place on the mantle for Terry's future Heisman trophy.

Spurrier is very good when taken in small doses.

Yeah that's why I wouldn't blame him if he went elsewhere. Plus you never know if playing the same position as his brother a few years behind him might not sit well with him for whatever reason.

Connor's education aside, we seem to be getting kind of stacked at QB, not that these folks couldn't play other positions. Connor in particular is supposedly a versatile athlete. However, a competitive, young athlete doesn't shy away from a challenge. Carolina needs QB help, imo, but he may still come our way. Hope he does.

FWIW, Connor told me that it will take something close to a miracle to pull him away from GT.

And this was right after he got the USCjr offer.

It really depends on what the young man wants to do?

Drop back passer for a legend or an option QB/wr for us?

Personally, I do not beleive USCeast will ever get past the other 4-5 SECeast teams. Spurrier has problems getting the talent at SC that he did at UF.

Interesting. I look forward to Connor's signing and playing with us.

Also interesting to me that Spurrier hasn't been able to put together a better team at Carolina.

But then who wants to play for a QB named Smelly? Change your name to Rockit, dude! Do it today!

Rockit Smelly.

first off, gnats, its Smelley, and secondly he left the SC program to pursue a baseball career in January...

It's way early to wonder about whether Spurrier may "steal" a recruit. There are over 11 months til signing day and kids are going to waver all over as they get contact from coaches and make visits. He's said all along that Spurrier was someone he's admired from his FL days and I can understand that from his perspective. But by the time it gets down to decision time he may not even have an offer anymore if Spurrier gets others to commit.

I would not worry about Shaw's recruitment, whether we get him or not.
#1 - Jaybo obviously likes GT and CPJ or we would not be on his brother's list
#2 - Connor certainly knows with insider information how things will stack up fr him at GT. If he signs elsewhere, it will be an informed decision as to what is best for his football future. I'd rather that be with USC-East than anyone on our schedule.
