do you support continuing with chan gailey as head coach at gt, i for 1 want his dumb ass gone.

Well, first of all I don't know why now is when people should weigh in or what us weighing in means. The only thing that matters is what DRad thinks and whether we have the money to make a change anyway. DRad has a master plan for Tech athletics. When/if he thinks Chan is holding back his plan he will be gone if we can afford it.

If he doesn't win out at this point, I don't think he should come back. But the problem is I don't think financially we can afford to get rid of him just yet.

As usual BOR speaks with a clear mind.

IMHO, Chan has been very close to being a real good college coach. Trouble is, the game isn't horseshoes.

We appear to play our best football when we are intense rather than tense. I remember when we played against Alabama during the Bear's first year. We were heavily favored but no one could find the handle on the ball. We were not focused and we lost to a lightly regarded Alabama team. The conversation amongst the fans was very similar to the conversations we are having these days.

Head coaches need to be part recruiter, part motivator, part performer, part tactician, part evaluator, part diplomat, part stratigist, part mama, part enforcer and part psychologist. Failure in any category can lead to a loss on any single gameday.

Bobby Dodd was fairly vocal about why he retired from coaching at Tech. Bill Curry felt he could do better elsewhere. So did Bobby Ross. So did George O'Leary. Before we lynch our present coach perhaps we should (1) be sure we are hanging the right man and (2) have our savior already defined and committed.

what is his master plan? is Gailey advancing his plan? if he doesn't win out this season, DRad will have to fire him to generate some enthusiasm for next season. we don't have much talent returning for next season, and without UGA, Clemson,or VT on our home schedule like they are this year...I foresee a huge dropoff in ticket sales.....we won't be able to afford not getting rid of him

We should have won the game.

Punt returners one job is to field punts.

Receivers cannot drop passes.

You cannot commit bad, undisciplined penalties.

You cannot allow teams to go 96 and 81 yards on their first two drives and make them look like 2005 USC.

You can't get field goals while the other team scores touchdowns.

We'll see about preparation, chemistry, and if this team can circle the wagons on Saturday.

Finally, my prayers are with Correy Earls, I hope that ordeal was more precautionary than anything else. WOuld have loved to get a customary thumbs up as he left the field though.

And my weigh-in and rant today came in at approximately 215 pounds.

That's kind of my point. If DRad sees that the football team is hurting us in fund raising, ticket sales dry up, we have too many empty seats, then he has a decision to make.

I'll wait til the end of the season. I'm not going to knee jerk just yet but it's not looking good. I'm a FOC and I'll support him or whatever DRAD chooses to do.

We talk about "average QBs" or "average defenses," but coaches are usually put into the categories "suck" or "awesome."

I don't think Chan is that bad of a coach, but there are definitely coaches out there who are better suited for the college game. The thing is, though, Chan just isn't paid that much compared to the teams we're trying to compete against. His salary is 40-something in the nation and he has either finished around there or better his five seasons here.

To make it further complicated, he doesn't have a buyout clause. I wonder whether or not he can legally be fired in the first place. I don't mean paying his base salary while paying another person to head coach; I mean we might not even be able to tell him to stop coaching. Firing him, I guess, could require a big new agreement from the GTAA that he agrees to.

Not to mention the question of whether we would get anything out of a coaching rather than a brief hope for the fanbase during the off-season. With the GTAA's finances, getting a good coach after coming to an agreement with Chan would be a very tall order.

So yeah, any decision would have to wait until the end of the year. Due to Dave Braine's massive incompetence, firing a coach at GT and finding a good new one is much harder than anywhere else.

How was DB able to operate so completely independent of the Board or Administration to have such a situation occur?

Are these brilliant Tech Men that stupid on these matters? Is this really the reason for GTAA finances being what they are?

Preseason, I expected 9 wins, a shot at the ACCCG, and to beat Georgia. I said I'd be calling for Chan's head if he missed all three of those marks. I'm not going to change my mind on those benchmarks now.

I support keeping Gailey at least for this season as I do not see any benefits to changing coaches mid-season.

We (really DRad) should evaluate the direction after the season to see if a change should be made.

No changes were made in 2005 with an outgoing AD, and Gailey got off the hot seat by starting out 9 - 2 in 2006 and winning the Coastal Division.

We need to get better and to execute more consistently. This year's lackluster on-the-field performances from low emotional intensity and mental errors are quite disturbing.

Also, we better beat UGA real soon because excuses for a close-but-no-cigar loss to UGA are running very thin after many consecutive years of the same result to go with a horrible loss to UGA back in 2002.

If we are going to accomplish anything positive this year, then the team needs to start playing much better for the remaining games of the season.

He needs to be shown the door the very second the Georgia game is over. However, this is likely a moot point as the GTAA cannot afford to pay him the remainder of his contract.

If this season goes down the drain and we go 7-5 and lose to UGA, I HOPE we are not going to be stuck with him for another few seasons because of financial reasons.

Unless he wins. 8 with a UGA win and he's good. 9 and a UGA win gets him a 1 year extension. 10 wins and I send him a fruitbasket.

In case you haven't noticed Kyle, the GTAA has been in the red the last few years. DRAd has turned it around this year and we look to be in the black, but don't know if we have the $4M or whatever it would cost to buy him out if we decide we need to.
