Remember a couple of years ago, ESPN had the top bowl winner by conference? The ACC won it but ESPN stopped talking about it, the minute it occurred.
Well we haven't been very good recently. Next year's early ratings will partially be based on how we do at the bowl games this year. Depth wise, we should win a bunch of bowl games. However, I hate most of the matchups:
VPI v Cin VPI folds usually. They should win this but they stink on the national level.
Clem v Neb Somehow the Gator got the ACC's 7th best team and we are now at risk here. I see Clem losing this one. Almost any other ACC team (GT, UNC, FSU, BC, MD) would win it.
GT v LSU I am worried in that we lose our momentum and LSU gets a chance to breath. LSU has good DT's which I still believe is the best predictor of playing our offense well. But I think GT wins.
BC v Vandy Once again, the ACC is being represented by an ACC team that is hurting come bowl time. NO QB equals NO bowl win. I hate losing to the SEC.
Nev v MD Just based on how ACC teams do when going out west makes me think MD will do the Hyde instead of the Jekyll. I just think Turner goes dead cold again in the cold.
Miami v Cal Same issue. I just don't see Miami getting up for this game and Cal is very competitive.
FSU v Wisc If FSU blows this one, then Bowden should be fired.
UNC v WV I think this is a horrible matchup for UNC and is close enough for plenty of mountaineers to support their team. Tough call actually but I'm worried.
Ball State v WF WF is not the same team from early in the season and Ball State wants to prove something now. Another tough matchup that can go either way.
Navy v NCS That young qb at NCS is really impressive. They are going to be good. But which teams traditionally is the worst for assignment football in the ACC? NCS can't stop Navy and I think will make enough mistakes to not keep up on offense.
I wish the ACC would get really pumped for bowl season collectively, but I just think the matchups this year are not working in our favor. I hope I'm dead wrong.
