It\'s tough to come on here and listen to whiners

from every side. But I have a lot of disjointed points to make.

#0. Do y'all really think the academic restrictions on Football Recruits are imaginary?

#1. We do not have the 'rivals' talent of our opponents. On the other hand, other than OL and TE(one of our best average star positions) I don't think we are outclassed in the ACC. And the OL is really showing potential.

#2. We are 'average' in a great conference. I would've loved to beat State and be 5-3 in conference, but we'd still be 'average' in my mind.

#3. When the ACC expanded, everyone wanted Miami, VT and another powerhouse. BC being the best available. When that happened, the paradigm shifted. Eight win seasons clearly will be much harder. I'll bet Fridge never wins ten again. Fidge and BigBee took advantage of weak schedules. It is like WVU in the Big East. Do you really think they would be above 500 in the ACC?

#4. We seem to be the least happy of all the 'average' ACC team fan bases. That includes Clemson, UVA, State, UNC, MD, and BC. None of them are seriously talking about coaching change and none of them will be better than 7-4. I have a strong feeling that the first average team to 'crack' and fire their coach will drop like a brick to the ACC cellar. Some of y'all are more positive. I think the ADs and prominent alumni at all those schools would err on the side of my opinion. I guess we all like mediocrity.

#12. I think we will have to reconsider playing Auburn/Notre Dame/Alabama caliber opponents if the fan base is going to freak out when we end up 6-5. Sure we have done well against Auburn. If UNC played pansies OOC they would have some impressive records.

#0 - The restrictions are what they are. However, we seem to have attracted some great talent even though those restrictions exist (as you note in #1). I do not think that our academic requirements should prevent us from being a good team. It does mean that we have to work harder and employ schemes that take advantage of this academic superiority that our players are supposed to possess. The facts are that you don't even have to find 22-25 oustanding players every year. Just 10-12 would work just fine with some solid role and "potential" players to fill out the class and I don't see how that is an impossible task given the numerous players available every year across this nation.

#4 - Apparently you don't know enough fans at these schools. Clemson, UVA, State & UNC fans are all disgruntled with their current situations from message boards to fans I've spoken with.

#12 - Why would we reconsider these games? We've won them. If anything, they have shown us that we do have the talent to compete and be "above average".

What is tough is listening to individuals who have a laundry list of excuses as to why we can't succeed. From the "tough new ACC" to "academics" all I hear is excuses and what amounts to "we should be happy to just be above .500 every year". I happen to feel that we can do better than that and that our talent level is good enough to achieve better things.

Re: It\'s tough to come on here and listen to whiners

You're dreaming if you don't think other schools are talking about coaching changes. You're either not looking or are conveniently ignoring what you see/hear.

MD isn't. Clemson does every year. UNC is fairly quiet now. NCSU is all over Amato.

The point here is who will be the team to step up to the next level. Every school is in a different situation. Chan happens to have a contract expiration looming. I don't think any of the others do. They're either in a longer term deal or have an automatic roll-over. We're exactly where we should be with Chan...evaluating how his first 4 years have gone and deciding if he stays.

No serious talk. Certainly not any more serious

than FSU's brainless chatter.

And at most a fraction of what is actually just a couple dozen extremely squeaky wheels on the GT Boards.

I think that is wishful thinking on your part.

If you think that it is just a dozen or so squeaky wheels who are not satisfied with the on-field results right now then you are simply putting your head in the sand.

Also, I've heard more than just brainless chatter from people at each of those schools who aren't just casual fans. As was already pointed out, each of them has there own set of circumstances and making changes doesn't always equal the head coach. Either way, they aren't satisfied that their results are indicative of their talent.

I know the facts.

The facts are you will see almost no changes at any of those schools.

You can claim that facts don't matter. But as long as few changes are made, I'll be right. The 'fans' will be full of mindless blather of no consequence.

If big changes happen anywhere, I'll be the first to admit that I was wrong.

Re: It\'s tough to come on here and listen to whiners

"I guess we all like mediocrity"!? Fairly recently, I would have blasted that comment to the high heavens...sadly, now I'm not so sure you aren't right. If we don't win EIGHT, not 7, not 6 with tough breaks/excuses, next year and we stick with the staus-quo ( mid to lower teir bowl), we as a program will have absolutely confirmed your comment.

BTW, I believe we will win 8 next year that includes a win in Athens. THWG

Maybe I missed something.

Exactly when did I state "for a fact" that changes would be made at any of those schools? I didn't. All I was pointing out is that we are not the only "average" team that is unhappy with their results right now and I certainly think we are closer to average with our unhappiness than signficantly worse. Nothing more, nothing less.

Well, I think we are above average whiners...

and around here there are a few who are squeaky as all get out.

What does that mean? If it doesn't have results, it is just brainless chatter to me.

Granted, if we beat UGA the dawggies will turn on Richt. That would be stupid IMHO, but they are already hot over losing to Auburn. So perhaps squeaky wheels is just part of not being 13-0. Something I wish we didn't have to put up with. Why can't we try to keep our dirty laundry a little more discreet, since this constant bulletin board harping over a coach who clearly has met the minimum for another year is not productive and is taking away from my enjoyment of a scrappy group of fine young men representing our Institute?

Re: No serious talk. Certainly not any more serious

I don't understand your point I guess. You made a statement that other schools aren't talking about getting rid of their coaches. Then you dismiss what others have seen/heard as mindless blather because it's just fans. Therefore what you hear from Tech fans is the same. So why are you criticizing us? Either it matters or it doesn't. If it doesn't why not ignore it? If it does, then we're the same as every other school you named.

Because we have less room for error and I\'m

firm in my opinion that we are the worst. Certainly only at NCState where the coach really deserves a hard time is there constant harping at this level. We had people calling for coach's head when we were 6-2. NOBODY else had that. Neutral websites often note this with amazement!

We could get a slight advantage over our competition if we weren't so negative all the time. UGA took a 'beating' (for them) recruiting after the Auburn spectacle several years ago. We laughed at them because we didn't have fans like that. Well we do. They exist on Buzzoff where nobody sees tham and they try to expand their empire over here as well.

JMHO.

Re: Because we have less room for error and I\'m

It wasn't the 6-2 that you like to point out. It was what most saw on the horizon! UVA has been tuff on us in the past, Mia looks like USCal in the east, Ugag with it's speed looks tuff, so many saw 6-5 again. Now if you are satisfied with the 6-5 mediocres of this world then have at it.

Before the season started I predicted a 6-5 record for us. I made one mistake I predicted a loss to UNC but predicted beating NCSt. Reverse them and I was 100%

Me, I'll take excellence in the class room and on the field. Is that so hard to take?

Irrelevant. We were 6-2 and facing a schedule

almost identical (probably easier) than a 5-3 UVA team. I live here and know dozens of UVA fans. They were not overjoyed but they weren't talking crazy like our fans.

We just have a buch of noisy malcontents. I really wish they would go away and leave us 'mediocrity' accepting fans alone.

Personally, I excelled in school athletically and academically. I have a beautiful, intelligent, low-maintenance wife and live in the finest neighborhood. I have a job that pays very well with outstanding perks like bi-annual trips to Europe.

But I'm not dumb enough to walk in the CEO's office and demand to be a VP tomorrow. I'll be a VP soon enough. I won't get there if I get on some kick where I loose sight of reality and convince myself that I've accepted mediocrity in my current role. I've spelled out how GT gets to 'elite' status. It ain't firing coach after coach praying we luck into a 10 game winner.
