I think we should move Lewis back to CB. I think it will be easier to find a SS between the guys on the roster and the incoming freshmen than a CB.

Wow. Did not see that one coming. I thought he was one of our more prized recruits of 2006. Oh well, life goes on.
Thanks for the update JTS.

Marius wasn't going to start and he wasn't going to be the nickel back. Roberson will be at cb along with Word and Clark. Lewis and Jones will be the safeties. Gaston looks to be the nickel back.

Lewis was all ACC at his position. He's not going to be moved. Tenuta has already said that. Freshman starting in Tenuta's system is something you most likely will not see.

I wish Poppy all the best and hope he recovers.

The Orlando Sentinel rated him as the 24th-best prospect in Florida in the 2006 senior class, and rivals.com rated him No. 37.

Just goes to show that with these player rating businesses such as rivals or scout, a high rating isn't a guarantee for anything, from a fans perspective or a players perspective.

If we don't get to the QB this year our goose is cooked.

don't know if I agree with that. From my POV, our DBs are at about the same point we were at last year. I think the DB will be as good as they were last year. Not world beaters, but not leaving us out to dry usually. The QB talent simply isn't that great in the ACC, honestly.

sidewalkfan,

I understand that currently everything is as you have described. Lewis is an All-ACC SS, but he is also the best CB on the team. I think that the team would be better off with Lewis at CB and either Gaston, Roberson, or one of the freshman that steps up at SS. I think that we will really miss having a good, true cover CB like Scott if Lewis is not moved.

It's not as big as Gaston going out for last season. We're probably doing better depth-wise this year than last year, after we graduated 4 DBs and lost another one with game experience to injury.

That's not to say we're doing better talent-wise though. KScott did a lot of things for us that many didn't realize. Was all the offense during the spring scrimmages good offense or poor defense? Guess we'll find out in South Bend.

They left us out to dry last year when facing good quarterbacks. Fortunately, you are correct in that there aren't many good QBs in the ACC.

Obviously he isn't if he couldn't beat out the second coming of Marvius Hester. I, like many, was hoping he would be able to replace Kenny Scott.

Don't harsh on Hester. He did a great job with what Jon T asked him to do, which is cover on an island without safety help, a lot, so we could blitz.

Just curious as to why you think he's the best CB on the team?

He was going to start at CB last year until Gaston got hurt. With Scott gone, he is our best CB.

All-conference safety in his first season at the position . . . Entered last spring as the likely starter at cornerback but switched to strong safety when Joe Gaston suffered a season-ending injury . . . Has four career interceptions.
