Jackets jump to #15 in USA Today Poll

Looks like everyone's precious USC will be given a National Championship birth again.

What would we do without USC in the NC game? The world would surely come to an end.

:laugher:

I would not be surprised if ND beat USC.

What I am hoping for is und to upset SC, leaving all the ish fans deleriously happy about reclaiming their birthright of playing for a championship.

Until...the bcs announces #2 is michigan. Und will scream they have been skrued, forgetting that UM beat them by 40.

The computers are not in on the conspiracy - Michigan is staying #2 in the BCS on the strength of the computer ratings despite dropping to #3 in both polls.

Florida is really screwed right now though, with Michigan finished playing and ahead of them in the polls.

It would be a crime for Michigan NOT to be #2. They played #1 down to the wire, and only lost by 3. I think Michigan would beat USC handily.

I don't like the idea of a rematch but Michigan is clearly the 2nd best team in the country. Their resume is still going to be better than the winner of the USC/ND game. And the SEC champion would get hammered by any of those 4 teams.

I think Florida would beat ND, and possibly USC. But I don't think anyone can lay a right to #2 more so than Michigan. fact is if they played this game at season opening, there would be NO question as to who is #2.

The Big Ten is so weak this season that you just can not say that Michigan is clearly better than UF or Ark. Michigan has played a good OSU, Wisc, and ND team, but the rest of their schedule is loaded with weak sisters of the poor. They just don't play enough Top 25 teams to clearly give them the NC game. Therefore another league should be given the shot period.

Exactly. And this is the one reason the computer crap for the BCS is working. Takes out the penalty for losing late in the season. A 3 point loss to Ohio State should be better than a loss to Oregon State, Auburn, or Louisville.

Arkansas and Notre Dame got smoked by top 5 teams so they shouldn't even be thrown into the equation at this point, if all we're talking about is whose 1 loss is a "better" loss.

USC is enormously overrated so I'm glad the computers are going to keep them out of the championship game.

??? If their schedule is loaded with weak sisters of the poor... what is our schedule like?

Well we've played five teams in the Top 25 at one time and are 3-2. Michigan has played four or five (Iowa, PSU, ND, OSU, Wisc) and are 4-1. In both examples, a couple of those teams are really bad this year (Miami, Iowa for example). Of course, I don't think we should be given the NC spot either.

I do think that Michigan may be the #2 team in the country, but they have generally played a weaker schedule than Florida and since it isn't CLEARLY a stronger team, they shouldn't be allowed in the NC game.

As much as I dislike USC, I also think they've played a far tougher schedule (up to 10 bowl teams?) and should be given a shot over Michigan.

Kind of a meaningless comparison considering we're not anywhere near playing for the National Championship. Which is not to say that I think our schedule is more or less difficult than Michigan. I'm just saying I don't think the comparison to us is meaningful.

A comparison to Florida's, Arkansas', USC's, ND's and other schools closer to the NC would be of more interest and more relevance.

For arguments sake I'll throw out there that I think Michigan has had a pretty decent schedule at the top. What I mean is that they played AT ND when ND was #2 in the country and won that game. They also had to play Wisconsin who has gotten very little hype despite having a terrific season and won that one. Then they had to go to Ohio State and aquitted themselves very nicely even in a loss.

Questions, comments, discussion?

The argument is certainly there that Michigan deserves to be #2 in the BCS. That being said, if USC does win out I believe that they will climb to the #2 spot. If Florida defeats Arkansas then they certainly have an argument to claim a spot in the BCS c-ship.

Because Arkansas got smoked by USC and ND was soundly defeated by Michigan, neither team should figure into the equation. I personally do not want to see an Ohio State/Michigan rematch, although it might actually be the best potential match-up on the table.

If USC were to drop a game, particularly to Notre Dame, and Arkansas were to defeat Florida (if Ark. defeats LSU) then I think there is no question that a re-match would then be in order.
