Jackson Hawes appreciation thread

Here is Hawes blocking FSU's #8, allowing Singleton to get downfield (with some great power running against the DB) setting up the winning FG:

Is he our Key to turning GT into a private institute, joining the Ivy League, putting an ivy covered brick wall around campus?

There are a lot of studs who are smart and were passed over by big programs in high school. Just too many players to scout.

I’ll say it till I’m banned, but the portal is the greatest tool that could have come our way. Everyone focus’s on the big name QB’s or guys like Gibbs regarding the portal. But a program who dedicates itself to find these type of guys (think Peter Brandt in Moneyball) will be hugely rewarded. This was game 1 and this single portal player helped GT win and is helping us with culture. Does he have a younger brother? There are lots of guys like him out there who matured at 20 instead of 17 or went to small private schools who are now grown men. We need to keep finding them at all positions.

Plus, he can probably calculate a free body diagram (not to be confused with my free body) and calculate where that dumbass he's playing against needs to get hit. Mostly the chest, but every so often, you gotta punch him in the mouth.

I hope he was told "Rookie of the year? Not seeing it" on every block.
That’s the thing, this country is full of dudes who can put up without mouthing off. But you don’t see that much in high school because those coaches need to win using players who matured at 15 and are often the look at me types. There are tons of legit players that can be found at every level of college ball. The portal can now bring them to GT. We had 2 portal players from small schools who helped us win - Rutledge on the fumble recovery and his massively blocking on the goal line and Hawes who has a highlight reel going viral. Hawes will play in the NFL.

I am re-watching the Dublin game again......it is unbelievable the impact of #85 on this game. Hawes ability to block the FSU DE's and LB's opened up running lanes for our guys. Pay attention tonight and appreciate the best blocking TE I have ever seen (and I'm old).

He's a big Utah man from Salt Lake City. Genetics from his ancestors having to survive harsh winters and drought ridden summers. They survived on tumbleweeds and melted snow. His great-great-great grandpappy, who coit personally knew, let Hawes know, from the great beyond, that blocking soft DE's and LB's was nothing compared to starving and freezing in a lean-to in Utah in 1850.
