What Lawbee said. Whenever you resisit arrest you're asking for an assbeating. Even the notorious british bobbies are known for this. As long as you comply, they are extremely polite. Once you decide to be an ass, they WILL beat the holy crap out of you if that's what it takes.

According to ESPN.com, he was causing a disturbance at a night-club and refused to leave, even after the police arrived to "escort" him. The article also states that he had to be placed in a restraint chair when they arrived at Duval County jail because he continued to be disruptive.

Ya gotta see this picture. How can anyone say he deserved this while in a roomful of jailers & deputy sheriffs. What a sad weekend for this young man while waiting to play in the Gator Bowl.

this is something I deal with ALL the time. Why do you RESIST arrest?

Probably less than 1% of all police beatings happen when someone DOES NOT resist arrest.

Does that excuse it? NO

But I have seen police officers beaten much worse than this. In Seatle a few months ago one was shot and KILLED with his OWN gun b/c someone was resisting.

However I have yet to see someone arrested at CHURCH and then beaten by the police. I also have never seen a SOBER person beaten by the police.

The article says he DID NOT resist arrest & was not being violent at time of arrest. He was evidently beaten while getting booked in the booking room. He was certainly greatly outnumbered. So the question I have is; was there another way of getting him thru the booking process & into a holding cell without this kind of beating happening? Could the sheriffs have backed off for a few minutes? I dunno, u tell me.

Fwiw, I don't see anything that would require a 'butterfly' much less stitches;really doesn't look like much of a beating from my limited experience. Maybe one of the guys in the drunk tank was a little too affectionate?
