Jamaal Evans Quits Team???

I saw a thread on the Hive that said that Evans 22 was not listed on the chart.

It's been on again off again with Evans. I doubt that PJ has any room on his team for prima donnas or slow running backs.

Supposedly, PJ said it wasn't a football issue... According to the AUC... TIFWIW

To bad to see Evans go. But every time the A-back is mentioned, I think of Barrick getting the pitch at full speed. He might not be fast, but he is going to deliver some pain on any DB who tries to tackle him.

At T-Day he had the only long touchdown run, where he made the first guy miss while maintaining speed and scampered to about a 40-50 yard touchdown, and that against our vaunted #1 defense. This would be a VERY significant loss. He was, in all likelihood, our best A-Back.

Yeah I think I'd like to see it at least once. Pitching to Barrick is like when WVU pitched to Schmitt. That dude barrelled some people. Ought to be fun to watch!

I think that's a stretch. I don't think we have an idea of who is our best at any backfield position yet. I hate to see him go, but I doubt in the end it will be that significant. What it does mean is that some freshmen will have to step up. RB is normally a position where that can happen.

Didn't we get some transfers also? I can't remember their positions or names, however, I think at least one has a chance of not having to sit out a year. Are any of them A-back material?

He was half assing it during scrimmages and PJ lit into him on more than a few occassions. It was reported he told Jamaal that "you better quit otherwise I'm going to run your ass outta here."

"Jamaal Evans is not in school," Johnson said. "This doesn't have anything to with football."

If it's NOT a football related matter, what is it then? Grades? Problems with the school? Home-life issues? I don't want to be too quick to judge before we find out the reason he left.

If he left for other reasons then God bless and good luck, if he left the team cause he couldnt hack it then WE DONT WANT YA!

CO-SIGN.

Jamal was a handful at times with his crap, me first attitude. He's never really seen the field so why are we whining about how "WE LOST THE BEST PLAYER" kind of attitude?

Greg Smith and Roddy Jones will be just as good and I cant wait to see them. This just means that M. Wright and/or Embry Peeples will see the field faster.

I wish jamaal the best and hope he gets everything straightened out.

GOOO JACKETS!!!!

IIRC there were some family or personal issues that were rumored to have him leaving earlier in the semester. Don't have any idea what they were or if that was true, but if he's dealing with something like that I hope he gets things taken care of.

I don't think "we" are whining about anything, I think it's just "me" whining about it. Maybe others don't share my opinion. But, how is it that he was the ONLY player that could make a play in the running game on T-Day? ... against our #1 defense?

He was perfect for the A-Back position, and if we recruited him this year, we'd be ecstatic. He's got very good speed, shifty, very balanced runner, can catch the ball, capable blocker, and experienced. Now we'll have to rely on a freshman, walk-on, or someone who wouldn't be recruited to this position. I like Jones and Smith, but we'll need more than 2. I think we have others that can make some plays but not like Evans. I think we'll be ok, but I can't say this won't hurt.

Maybe after 2-3 years when we've recruited this position heavily and have guys in the system, this wouldn't be as bad, but this year, it's bad. He was our starter at a position where we have depth issues.

I would have liked to have him, if nothing else just for the depth, but we've got some pretty serious depth already so I'm not totally sweating it.

This does mean, though, that we won't likely see any redshirts at RB this year.

I heard Evans transfer rumors well before CPJ was hired and was mildly surprised he was here as long as he was. The original reasons were neither grade nor football related FWIW.

i put all my money on black, unless the number comes out red, then i want it on red

God Bless ya either way, Thumper!!!

Jamaal has been contemplating over this for a while. I thought after a conversation I had with him at the end of spring practice that he would be back with us until he came by this week and shook my hand to tell me goodbye, I think the kid definitely feels like hes making the right decision. He has had some ongoing issues with family members, nothing too serious but being the man he is he wants to be there for everyone he cares about, his mind is just in another place. He is in the process now of looking for a school to transfer to while getting help from the GT staff with that. I wish Jamaal luck in his future endeavors, hes a good kid and will be missed.

With that being said I am looking forward to seeing Mr. Wright get a bigger load this fall.
