Jaybo Shaw

Interesting. Seems to have really turned around my alma mater - Wayne County High.
A little disappointing to barely see their logo - Yellow Jackets - pictured or referenced in posts or pictures.

I thought he ended up transferring to GSU?

He did. But I didn't know that he had followed his dad into coaching. Appears to be very successful. I wonder if his teams run the 3O? :)

Nope. Coached Gunner Stockton at Raburn. He set all kind of passing records. Still don’t understand why he left Raburn. He and his dad built them into a small school power somehow. And that’s a pretty nice place to live.

Maybe because Gunner graduated?
Rabun still had a pretty good year. Maybe Jaybo didn't want to be part of a rebuilding process there. He took Wayne County, winless the year before under a game who had won a bunch of games in South Carolina, and turned them back into a solid program overnight.
Wayne County may have thrown more at him than Rabun could.

Previous coach had let discipline go. Shaw said he was interested in Wayne Co. because it was single high school in a large county. I just worry if he will stay long.

The Statesboro job is open now. Wonder if he will have interest in that.
Even though that is not a one-school county, there are athletes and there is support. And Bulloch County is expected to top 100,000 in population in the next 10 years, I think.

Did you know Dr. Bill Headley? Tech Grad (BEE), Navy ROTC, Naval Aviator, MD, GP. He lived and practiced in Jessup. He was a good friend of mine at Tech. We were in Baptist Student Union together. He passed away earlier this year (2022) from a rare cancer - brain tumor. I had not seen him since we graduated from Tech in 1984-1985, but it broke my heart. He was like brother to me.

I went to a different doctor in same practice; my uncle used Dr. Headley until he stopped his practice. It was sad.

I remember having tons of fun watching Jaybo play. He's one of the most underrated quarterbacks to ever come through here, or anywhere else. He isn't done rising yet by a country mile.

Sad story for sure, but I moved away permanently when I was a Junior at Tech in 1980.

Ironically, the first Buzz (who was also from Jesup) is an Oncologist, but he settled in Carrolton after Med School. Although, the rest of his family is still living in Jesup, and his brother-in-law (a mutt) is an Orthopedic Surgeon there who probably knew your friend, Bill.

Didn't Jaybo's dad, HS football coach Lee Shaw, pass away a few a years ago? Am I remembering that right? Maybe he just retired.
