Signed a deal to play baseball with the Cubs as a pitcher. The deal stipulates that he can and will still play football in the fall, but he will immediately go to play in their rookie league. Will this be an advantage for Tech in that he may be physically tired after playing a full season of College Baseball, followed by a half season of rookie ball, then having to change gears and prepare for the opener against Tech? Or will he just be in better shape than anyone else(not saying pitchers have to be in shape)?

Personally, I think this hurts ND

more than it helps. While he may not be an "everyday" player in baseball, the fact that he's playing right up to the start of Fall practice can't help.

I doubt you'll find too many coaches who would want one of their starters playing minor league ball. More chances for injury and it's something else for them to be worried about rather than focusing on the up-coming season.

That is why the Cubs will never be the Yankees. Steinbrenner would have put in his contract that he couldn't even THINK about touching a football while under a Yankee's contract. Steinbrenner knows his bottom line.

Also if he REALLY does well with the baseball he may decide not to come back to school.
