to the CSS Sportsnite crew when asked about the importance of the Georgia game and a chance for the ACC Championship.
He was asked if you could only win just one, which would it be. His answer, "Obviously, you want to win them both, but if you could just win one of them, I'd have to say the ACC Championship. They don't give you a ring for beating Georgia!"

Exactly!!

Anyone who places more value on the UGA game than a championship is probably just the office sniveler who ran his mouth too much after 3-in-a-row and now cant take the heat...

Get your priorities straight..

1. National Championship
2. Conference Championship
3. Bowl Game
4. your little state championship...

I think one of the privileges of being a fan and supporter of a team is having your own priorities. I'm not disagreeing that the ACC Crown matters more than the State Crown. But for some fans the UGa game means more and I don't see anything at all wrong with that.

Beyond cheering in the stands, I'm not sure a fan has any obligation to a team. Priorities belong to the team not the fans.

And its not like anyone has to choose between the two. At least we shouldn't have to.

As much as I respect Joe Hamilton as probably the best all around GT player I have ever seen in my 50 years of following GT football, we will have to agree to disagree on this one.

As a fan, we have our own priorities on what we want to see our team accomplish.

As for me:
1. MNC
100. Conf. Champ
101. Individual games

Being the national champ is all that matters in the big picture. A conference championship is like an Atlanta Braves division championship. Nice for the flag poles at the stadium, but folks outside your fan base are unimpressed.

I was never happy with our region championships in high school. The state title was all that mattered.

Then again, a conference championship is something to appreciate.

Dustjacket,
If I could only win ONE game all year, it would have to be the game with uga. Everything else is icing on the cake. Beating uga is like the the roof of a season. Without winning over uga, we're just a good team out in the rain. If you really want to see the fan base come together at GT, we will have to beat uga, and do it with some consistency.

I honestly thought this would be the year that we would turn this thing around with uga but now we will have to wait another YEAR for it. The one thing that most of the fan base is upset about is the way we lost the game. Should have been our game to win, and the score should have ended 14-7, or 14-10, GT winners. uga did NOT beat GT this time. GT just flat out blew it. I'll not get back in to individual responsibility for it should stand good for itself.

Now we most definitely have an opportunity to salvage something out of this season as well as see our guys make it to another bowl game and a good one at that.

I am VERY proud of this team. It has shown character beyond my expectations and it has gelled a lot as the season progressed.

uga is behind us now, so we just need to get over it and look forward to what is ahead. I expect what's ahead to be more of a challenge than uga was.

Winning vs UGA is worth 3 non-UGA wins in Beejmath.

The question: "if you could win just one". The main problem with that question is that we DON'T have to just win only one. We could win BOTH. And that's the sad part about questions like those - they're stupid. :)

Wonder what Joe would have said after the game? I wonder what would he say about the play at the QB position...

The source needs to be considered. Joe has two georgia wins to remember the series by, but he also has a terrible loss to wfu that not only cost him an acc ring, but a John Heisman trophy too.

If we ever start beating georgia 7 out of 10 or so, the monkey is off our back. Until then we are georgia's little beeach on the football field. That is why the georgia game is the single most important win we can have.
They would feel the same way if the shoe were on the other foot.

Joe is never wrong, but has taken his pelts.

Th ONLY time that Tech has ever beaten GA CONSISTENTLY was back in the '50s when we won 8 in a row.

But GA has never been tougher than in recent years.

A conference championship requires A LOT of wins, normally at least 7. We'll have 8 if we do it this year, although we could have done with (the right set of) 7.

So, if somebody asks you before the season starts to pick between the conference championship and UGAg, then I can see going for the conference championship, because you are buying A LOT of wins.

If the question is would I trade a win over UGAg for a win over Wake in the ACC championsip, then my answer is no.

The best answer is we need to get good enough to win them both.

"your little state championship" - I never expected to hear a Tech fan refer to "Clean Old Fashioned Hate" in such fashion. Why not just get them off the schedule - for it seems the media, fans, and teams get worked up way too much and GT loses far too often for a game as insignificant as a "little state championship"?

this "little state championship" is so much more than you are making it out to be...i mean come on...anybody who lives in georgia sees this rivalry for what it is...the thousands of uga car tags you see for every one tech one...the huge area in the local dicks and all other sporting goods stores dedicated to uga with the 1 rack of the same tech shirts everybody has...even in atlanta...as close as across the street in atlantic station...all of the trash talking the mutt fans give us...this is much more than a "little state championship"...it is hate...dont get me wrong...i love our guys and want the best for all of them...and i love having a shot at this acc crown...but for me no loss has hurt as much as the one we got this past weekend...this was our year and we blew it...in the past few days my life has been hell...all bc of this game...i have gotten between 20-25 phone messages...just as many online messages through facebook and such...im sorry but a win in the acc just isnt the same now...and i knew it wouldnt be if this happened...6 years...this is my third year at tech and im hoping and preying to god that we can turn this around before i have to leave this place...im hurting right now...and i know a lot of other fans cared about this one game as much as i did...so please dont downplay this game and disrespect us by calling it a "little state championship"...i know there is more out there for this team...and i will still be there in jax supporting my team...and trying to give just as much as i would have with a win vs them...but it just is not the same...this one just hurts...a lot...

In normal perspective a National Championship is going to top anyone's list. That would be followed by a conference championship and then either a win in a major bowl game or a win against your state rival.

Because of the one-sidedness of the series over the last, well, going on four decades now, a win against UGA for many Tech fans takes precedent over an ACC championship or an Orange Bowl berth. For me personally, well for about 24 hours after the UGA game, I was severely distraught.

Maybe it's because I am a Georgia grad who stuck to his guns as a Tech fan through my four years in Athens, but it's a very emotional game for me, so much so that if I'm not at BDS or SS, I prefer to watch the game alone and to be left alone when it's over. It's been even more gut wrenching than usual over these last three years because GT should/could have won the last three games. And when the series record is 11-31 in my lifetime you just hate to see opportunities to defeat them go unfulfilled.

I do believe if the series was more near .500 over the last couple of decades (or if GT even won about 40% of the time) then more people might consider an ACC championship more important than a win over UGA (or I could be totally wrong on that, it's really up to the individual fan). GT fans hate UGA and UGA fans hate GT. I am a bit unique in this rivalry. I despise UGA from a sport-minded prespective, yet I am proud of my degree from there. But there is no doubt where my heart is, and it's never more apparant then when Clean Old Fashioned Hate rolls around every late November.

This is pretty simplistic, but the UGA game was the most important game of the season for me. As I mentioned, I had a real tough time this year after the game, so much so that I skipped a USC/ND party up the street in my neighborhood and stayed home.

But now that the game is over and I've had a couple of days to heal, I am ready for the most important game of the season now, which is WF for the ACC championship, a 10 win season, and a BCS Orange Bowl. I will not let UGA spoil that for me.

Although I hate losing to UGA, it is the manner that we lost that really bugs the heck out of me. We have a team that is just busting to score 50 points a game and our coach holds them back with the worst qb in the country.

Otherwise, I have always argued that UGA should be first now and not last and that the ACC is in fact a much bigger reward since it covers a whole season.

That's actually not a bad idea. I might try that next year. I think I scared my wife.

A friend of mine who's a Georgia fan told me game balls were handed out to:
Paul Oliver
Matthew Stafford
& Reggie Ball

uh..yeah...we lost to UGAg.

What are you trying to do here LongforDodd?
You have totally taken one phrase out of context and made it into something it's not.

Go back and read it again and you'll see what I'm saying.

uga did not beat GT!!!!!!!

GT lost the game. This means uga did not beat us by their better football play. We just blew it and handed it to them.
