Jon Dwyer: Tops in Nation Rushing

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/sortables?stat=rush&group=80&year=2008&sort=rushlong

#1 in Longest run
# 11 in Yards per carry
#19 in Yards total
Tied for #23 in TDs with about a million other people including Nesbitt
Tied for #66 in carries.

This kid is a stud!!! He has less carries than some of the best backs (yards and TD wise) yet is still doing this much damage.

That's what I'm talking 'bout!!!

Well, 88 yard runs tend to impact such things but it is nice to see him up there for sure.

But its not like his yards came on that one play... He has big runs every game.

Plus, home run balls are what Dwyer is going to get. PJ told us that every down is going to have big play potential and he wasn't lying. Jonathan is going to have a few of the big ones this year and it will probably help keep him at the top of these lists - which is where he belongs.

Is there a category for 20+ yard carries? I'm sure he'd be at or near the top of that one as well. We do have an offense that is built to give him big gains though.

Shut up! Knowshon is the best runningback in the worlds history! He JUMPED over a guy!

I hate when people do that. Yards are yards. It's harder to break an 88 yarder than it is to get 20 four yarders.

Well, that may be true. I was just thinking that a really big yardage run like this is special and has a large impact on things like yards per carry early in the season. Now over the course of an entire season it has less overall impact but with a sample of just a few games it is pretty significant.

I was surprised to hear that it was the longest run in Tech history, that is REALLY special.

The great thing about the option, one defender is out of place or going after the wrong guy can spell TD on every single play!

Roddy Jones with the 49 yder at #63
Greg Smith with the 45 yder at #77
Jaybo with the 43 yder at #92

Odd stat:

Navy in PJ's first year finished 3rd in rushing.
GT in PJ's first year is currently 3rd in rushing.

Hrmm.
