didnt GT talk to june jones last year during the coaching search? what happened with that, did he reject us or did we reject him?
he would have been a great coach with a reala nd exciting offense, better that the crap we have now.

I know things look bleak now. I am as down as anybody. But please don't dredge up June Jones. It can't be that bad.

Now that is good stuff; thanks for the comic relief. FYI, he was NEVER a candidate for the GT job; he threw his name out there as a way to get some leverage (ie. a raise) from the rainbows.

better than ching chong "chan", obviously

but of course why would you want to leave paradise to come to the ghetto

June Jones is an outstanding college football coach. He has proven that. Folks might not like the Run-n-shoot offense but JJ probably knows more about throwing the football than anyone in the world. He has also shown the ability to motivate college kids. His love of the R-n-S was probably not the right fit for the NFL, but in the college game he is tough to deal with.

I believe he would be very successful at any colleigate level. Many will disagree, but that is my feeling. If he can go toe-to-toe against Bama with Hawaii type talent, what do you think he would do with FSU/UF type talent?

I don't want to knock Chan, but I believe JJ and Hawaii would kick are arse up and down the field.

Certainly, the beaches and tropical climate of Hawaii make for a wonderful place to be, but I am gonna get out on a limb here and state that the GT program is just a llliiiiiiiittttttle bit better than Hawaii's in terms of coaching jobs.

You certainly make some interesting posts for a GT fan!

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">I disagree. Do you really think that he would go to Alabama and not get blown off of the field? Alabama used this as a bowl trip for their team and treated the game as such. Alabama lost in brutal fashion at home to their rival the week before--how fired up for a game would a bunch of 18-22 yr. olds (that get to leave the state of Alabama for a week

) be on the beaches of Hawaii? I'm guessing not very.

No doubt about it, JJ knows the passing game like few in the coaching ranks (save Spurrier and Ralph). With him as a coach, I cannot help but think that our team would be even more "soft" than they appeared on Sat. We would be all finesse and very little defense--not a recipe to compete against teams from the South.

For the record, I am not saying that the team does not need obvious improvement in several areas, but to me it is more of a motivational/coaching up/struggling QB play issue more than anything.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Interesting. A good friend lived there for a couple of years and said that believe it or not, you do get tired of 75 degree temps. year round. However I am looking forward to my first trip to Hawaii next May for my honeymoon. I'll get to see if his comment is true.

June Jones would have walked to Atlanta for this job.

He would love to show the atlanta people something.

IF june jones had tenuta for def coord then we would have competed for acc championship.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">I couldn't agree more, especially if he had a good defensive coordinator. The fun in gun offense run by Spurrier was very similar to the run n shoot. I think the run-n-shoot is much more successful in college than it would be in the pro's.

Will never forget Jeff George yelling at June on the Falcons sideline, wish June had cold-cocked him.

June Jones at Tech would have been a nightmare for me... gosh... I get shivers thinking about it.

even though i started this topic, ill admit that i dont know much about June Jones except that he didnt have much success with the falcons. besides that why do so many here dis like him?

Shadyjacket, I think you answered your own question. It has to do with his record with the Falcons. With a solid defensive coordinator, June Jones could have been been successful at Tech. He's won at Hawaii which despite the weather is a difficult place to recruit. However, too many people around here remember the Falcons days and he was never given a chance despite showing interest in the job. Notice that nobody gave you a counter-argument based on what he's done at Hawaii. I don't believe the run-and-shoot works in the NFL but I think it can be successful in college and it would work great at Tech.

No way I leave Honolulu for Atlanta unless I'm a diehard alumnus (not applicable).
