Just an observation on CG

I personally don't know the man. The only words spoken between us are the kind of words exchanged at fan photo day.."Hey coach, can you sign my miniature helmet? How are we looking so far? That's great! Is this our year to whip ga? I hope so too. Thanks and good luck!

That said, I have given him the benefit of the doubt about his lack of communicating with the fan base, and felt that the detachment was somehow ordered by his boss.
I could never answer why that would have been a good strategy, but credited it to Braine nontheless.

Maybe it's way too early to tell, but I would have thought Chan would have made an effort to get in touch somehow with the adoring public of Ga. Tech since Dave's announcement.
That is, if he wanted to.

I am really tired of the bunker business of the football program! It makes me think he doesn't like us. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif, and it's just damn rude.
Give me a coach like Paul Hewitt. You know what side he is on.
Is it just me, or does CG strike anyone else as THE football coach versus OUR football coach?

All coaches have their own style and strengths/weaknesses. CG may just not be the outgoing type. With that said, a comunication breakdown can cause big problems. With supporters. This will likely be an issue that the new AD could assist CG with and is one that BC could absolutely help CG with due to his experience.

Hey, I just mentioned a Led Zeppelin song; Communication Breakdown".

Just like Joe Dirt said "I'm a rocker through and through dude".

Here's another. Who wrote these lyrics?

"I won't back down"

A) Tom Petty
B) Chan Gailey
C) Both A and B

I will take a wild guess....C?

By the way wasn't that song Petty's response to attempting to raise the prices of his albums?

By the way although knowing when to back down is a good trait for some people to have, it does not serve football coaches well, especially head coaches.

Banker, to be honest I kind of drew a momentary blank on pulling a rock lyric.( I was actually trying to recall some appropriate words from Nugent's "Great White Buffalo", to no avail.)

My only association with Petty's words were Chan's seemingly stubborness to hire an OC for the college game.
Weak on my part? Absolutely!

I honestly can't think of any communication I've seen from any college FB coach since the season ended. If I'm missing something fill me in. I agree that Chan isn't good at PR and often misses an opportunity to connect with fans, but I don't understand what it is you want him to say about DB retiring. Have any of our other coaches called press conferences? Hewitt has made comments because he's been asked by reporters...because he's had so much to say about Braine in the past and because his sport is in season, so he's talking with the writers regularly.

Don't misunderstand, Chan's PR is terrible. But I don't get this one. Unless he's called by a reporter should he call a press conferences or issue a statement?

No doubt that this is my observation, and I don't expect you to agree with it.

My point was that I had thought it was possible that CG's zipped lipped style with the fans was directed by his boss.

If that was the only reason why, I absolutely believe Chan would have reached out in some way to at least the season ticket holders. Again, maybe he still will.

To compare the other programs to this one is not fair. First, CG has been mum since he got here. If he believed in communicating regularly, he would have done it as soon as possible. Don't tell me there is nothing for him to say. Wouldn't you want to hear Chan discuss the state of the program?

I know this is no big deal. If Chan stays quiet, all it means is that Dave never told him how to handle the fan base.
maybe Clough has. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif kidding.

All I'm saying is that what Chan's done since the end of the season is pretty standard for all coaches. He will be the signing day activities and I would hope will have some things to say on the overall state of the program.

Chan is terrible on day to day communications with the fans, and he's much more inaccessible during the season than most coaches are. He evidently doesn't understand that feeling like they know the coach and what he's thinking is one of the ways college fans stay connected. I simply don't think that a state of the program address is something that the vast majority of coaches have done, so I don't fault him for not doing that.

This was suppose to be a simple thought. I will try one more time to express it. After that, it will be that you just don't want to hear it. Which is fine too.

I don't care what other coaches would do.
IF Chan Gailey had been living under a gag order imposed by Dave for the last 4 years, Gailey would jump at the very first opportunity to come out behind the curtain, IF Gailey had the personality of a great and open communicator.

If he continues to stay mum, or talk only when he has to I will continue to think he is being rude to the fanbase. Just my opinion.

I think we're talking around the same point. You're expecting Chan to do something that would be over and above what most coaches do in communicating with fans. He's not that kind of guy. I don't think there's any kind of gag order, in fact, I think someone would have to make him communicate more. He hasn't trusted the media since his Dallas days. I think his website is his attempt to speak directly to fans without having to use the media as a go between (not saying it's effective but that he doesn't trust the media to get the message right). I don't think he's being rude, he's just being himself and that's quiet. He thinks his job is to coach football not explain what he's doing. He's naive perhaps but to me being rude would be insulting to fans, not closed mouth. Just my 2 cents.

Chan has NEVER trusted the news media, because they tell the truth. All this posturing after wins like" you didn't think we had a chance, did you",are old and full of crap. For the most part the news media has been fair to him,go back and look at the articles wriiten about him,and stats from his two years in Dallas, and watch him dispute FACTS! I actually brought up some of these topics with him,and he denied STATS! He will never endear himself to anyone with his attitude.

Wow. Lots of statements here. Sounds like you are accusing Chan Gailey of being a liar. Impressive that you confronted him personally with facts that he had to lie to you about them.

I'm not taking sides, just giving you my opinion. Although, I do have to say that a statement like, the media tells the truth just makes me smile. Sometimes they do and sometimes they make up the story all on their own. But that's an aside, Chan does have terrible PR skills...there's no arguing that.
