I recall when we opened the '01 season with Syracuse, they were bitchin' and moaning about their coaching mediocrity. Here is his record from '99 to '03 when he was fired: 7-5, 6-5, 10-3, 4-7, 6-6.

The new coach's record? 6-23 the past three years. No, his name is not Bill Lewis.

Before you run the coach off, be damn sure you're making an upgrade.

that is why CG will not be replaced barring a complete meltdown.

Objectively you can say recruiting is doing better than ever

Attendance is up specifically season tix sells.

CG is working for +50% less than fridge, both bowdens, and any coach that is performing at a high level.

I wonder what would happen to our AD if he fired CG and paid another coach 50% and the team performed worse.

Our AD will ride this situation out for at least the next 2 years.

The worst example of this stuff IMO is The Hawks. Never could quite beat the Bulls in the playoffs, so we scrapped the whole team and coach and everything and what seems like decades later we can still only win like 10 games per year.

My apathy runneth deep for the franchise known as the Atlanta Hawks --do we still have a team? That's about how interested I am in them.

I am frustrated with Chan too, but the season is still only half over.

More importantly I think we need to consider our situation. We're coming off of probation and we need lots of recruits this year and next. Wiping out a coach and staff is just about the worst thing you can do when you need lots of players.

Add in our financial situation.

Add in the fact that Chan's record is mediocre but not exactly ugly versus other coach's of the last 40 years.

Unless we melt down, something we may do simply because of injuries, Chan is staying. Regardless there is certainly enough chance of that occurring that to tear him down publicly does absolutely no good for Tech football.

I completely agree. The season is only half over and we still have a chance at a very solid season.

Those that are simply here to argue will point out examples where a change produced some dramatic positive result.

jondees, so you are discounting FACTS BEFORE they are presented by claiming they are invalid due to "arguing"!?

Making a change at the end of this year is definitely a complex set of tradeoffs, but your position sounds a lot like the lefties who slammed the surge in Iraq out of fear it might work...guess what!?

1. We are not Syracuse 2. I find it hard to beleive that any of you knowledgeable football fans can really argue with a straight face that Chan has done the most possible w/ the offensive talent he has had.

Being afraid to change coaches because you might get worse is very similar to being afraid to pass on 3rd-and-20 because you might get intercepted or sacked.

You are correct.(BTW... I am not saying this approach is the best way to win a debate)

There are plenty of examples that could prove making a change works and plenty of examples that prove otherwise. I am not afraid of change, but I hold the personal opinion that Chan hasn't done a bad job with the program over his tenure. I personally feel the program is headed in the right direction. It is not up to me, but I like the stability of a long term head coach for our program because of the challenges being a head coach at GaTech brings.

All those point towards hiring Tenuta on the cheap, and keeping the rest of the coaches in place.

Wow! I guess you guys listened to Braine...6-7 wins is OK for the most of you.

In response to your argument above....

1. Bobby Bowden
2. Steve Spurrier
3. Dan Hawkins
4. Bobby Petrino

Basically, any coach at a number of schools have come in and done a fantastic turnaround job. Sure there are coaches who have come in and lost. But there are also plenty of coaches that have come in and won. You're argument is pointless.

Are you guys that afraid of change?

I swear, I'm gonna reach through my computer and bitchslap the next SOB that says I'm happy with 6-7 wins. NO one, not ONE person has ever said they're satisfied with seven wins.

You might could add George O'Leary to that list...or not.

You could also make a sublist of coaches who won a few seasons with the old coaches players and then petered out.

Making a change from a Bill Lewis is an no-brainer. But the odds are far different when you replace a coach that's never had a losing season. Add to that the difficulty of coaching at GT (and yes, it IS more difficult than elsewhere, but it can be done) and the recipe is primed for failure.

For every coach you list that's come in and won big, there are 10, who if they didn't fail miserably, they stayed mired in the dreaded mediocrity.

I'm not saying not to make a move out of 'fear', I'm not saying we shouldn't make a change; I am saying to those who would eagerly dump CCG to beware. This won't be simple and the risks are high. And if the new guy comes in and loses 7 his first year, don't be surprised and most of all don't throw him under the bus like many were ready to do to Gailey before he even set foot on campus.

why would he be thrown under the bus, we have lived with mediocrity for 5+ years and counting, its not like GOMER hasnt been given a chance.

COACH GAILEY has been given every chance. It may be time to move on. However, there has been a sizeable, extremely vocal minority that's been screaming for him to be fired literally from the day he was hired. That does not help anyone.

Figures you'd be satisfied with bitchslapping instead of tearing out the SOB's heart! :) :) :) :)
