Just curious, how do y'all look at O'Brien at BC

His ex-team is now ranked the highest it's ever been and has a real chance to go to the BCS/CG. Is it because O'Brien left and a good coach came in or because O'Brien built a strong program?

Based on the latest depth chart the starting 22 breaks out as follows:

sr- ..12
jr - ...6
so- ...3
fr- ....1

These numbers point towards O'Brien leaving the cubbard pretty stocked.

Plus --BC has had a good program for a few years now:

2006- 10-3
2005- 9-3
2004- 9-3

O'Brien has inherited "the Mess left by the Chest" --(3-9 last season --in fairness Amato won 57% of his games) so he needs a couple of years at NCSt.

Ryan is finally health this year, that's why BC is doing so well. O'Brien knew what he was leaving behind, but he sees more opportunity long term at State with the fan support, money, etc.

In my opinion, he has a senior QB in Matt Ryan that very well could be the top QB taken in the NFL draft.

To compliment him, they have a senior TB in Andre Callendar, senior FB Thompson, and senior WR in Challenger (Robinson is a junior WR).

Plus...They have not been tested yet at all. I hope they go undefeated, but they have been able to learn his pro-style system against all unranked opponents.

The thing is this, Jagodzinksi is off to a great start but how many times do we see hot coaches fade off. Heck...this year there has been a resurgence of re-tread coaches (which most are). I can imagine the complaining on-line if we hired a guy who had never been a head coach and recently spent 1 year as OC for the Packers after 3 years with the unsuccessful Falcons. Additionally, he had been an offensive coordinator under Tom O'Brien...who many feel on this board was too conservative. Jag is a run first, throw second coordinator btw.

My only question is: "What was O'Brian thinking?"

If somebody offers me more money to live in North Carolina rather than Boston, I'm there.

At least that's what I would have been thinking.

I have an opinion but I'll wait 5-6 years to be so bold as to make an educated opionion. BC is better this year than they were last year but I'm not sure their record will be much different at year's end.

i think O'B is a very good coach but I'm not sure NCSU is a good fit for him. i think he 's mroe of a UNC/UVA type myself.

It is highly misleading to look at won-loss records in the first few years of a regime and think you understand anything at all. You have to look deeper.

But everyone does. They loved Terry Bowden, didn't they? They gave Weis a 10 year contract, but fired Ty Willingham, and there is not a paper width's difference in their early year performances.

My read at BC is that O'B is a fine coach who did a fine job there. Jag has shown he has some of the skills needed as HFC, but is untested on the rest of them. At least he knows enough not to screw the pooch.

But I think an awful lot of their success is due to a fifth year senior quarterback playing behind a competent offensive line that knows how to block and hold. You can win a lot of games that way.

I saw Jagodzinksi on ESPN (or another sports show), and he is very, very impressive, smoothe as silk, amiable, and entertaining. He talked about telling his kids to have fun, which is a whole lot different than implanting the fear to not to lose. Though I saw him only for a few minutes, I believe he is going to make a hell of a head coach. If DRad ever decides to make a change, he would be my top candidate today.
Who ever said I was impulsive?

No mystery - he was ready to take the job until they explained the recruiting restrictions to him.
Oh, yeah. I forgot about that. I kept thinking there was another thing - something about our offensive staff. Maybe that was something else.

Looking back, what was the big deal with our recruiting limitations. Its not like BC is UGa and Chan sure is gettin' it done here.
