Just wondering how many of you have PAID for a ticket to a college football in which you had no rooting interest?

I've been to a ton of college football games in my life but I can't say that I've paid for a ticket to game other than GT or Auburn (my wife's alma mater). I've been to plenty of UGA games (where rooting interest is questionable - against, obviously) when I was a student there so I didn't really pay. I've been back to UGA post graduation but the opponent was either GT or Auburn.

I have been to a few games where I have no interest, just to go with friends.

I've been to a Tenn-Texas Tech game in Knoxville, because I have friends from Lubbock. I've also been to an Iron Bowl, just because it is a big game and I had friends who were going. I've been to Vandy basketball games for the same reason.

I've taken several coworkers to Tech games. Some have gone back on their own. They have generally followed Tech because they are engineers living in Atlanta who like football. My boss, for example, went to Washington St, so he can't watch their games here easily.

What I would think Tech is angling for is to wrap the discounted cost of the Tech game into the Atlanta pre-bowl ticket price. Then hope that a few people will:
1) show up themselves
2) give their tickets to friends in Atlanta
3) bring along friends who might be interested in the Tech game.

I could see case #3 occurring if we coordinated our game with the bowl game. Lets say we play Louisville while Kentucky plays UNC in the pre-bowl. Or maybe dove tail our FCS game with the pre-bowl. Maybe play Richmond while VT plays in the dome.

I bought tickets to the Gator Bowl last year because I enjoyed the experience when GT was there. Tickets weren't very expensive and I like road trips.

I also lke college football

I went to a couple of SEC CG's with my brother (UGA fan) and my father-in-law (Tenn fan). I went in 2001 and watched LSU beat UT. Then we went back in 2003 and watched LSU beat UGA.

The second I had more of a rooting interest more against UGA than for LSU. The first I didn't care. Just went for the atmosphere.

Funny thing is that we had a conversation the second year where they were giving me a hard time as a Tech fan about the three of us going to the ACCCG when Tech made it. In 2006 after we beat VT in their house I went over to my f-i-l's house the next week. As soon as I said I had been thinking about a conversation a few years earlier he knew what I was talking about and said he hoped I had forgotten about that.

Much to my surprise both he and my brother did fulfill their end of the deal. Both sat in that miserable weather right beside me wearing their blue and yellow. Probably not official, but close enough for UGA and UT fans.

Any serious matchup in college football is great atmosphere and worth the price of admission, even if I'm just there to support the conference. I was out of town Labor Day weekend, but would have gone to the Dome for Alabama/Clemson. I'd also gladly pay for a chance to see anyone beat UGA, just to see the bulldog fans cry.

I went to the UGA-Colorado game a couple of years ago where the Buffs nearly beat them. It was awesome seeing Ralphie run up and down the sidelines.

I don't mind starting the season with a Thursday Night game, especially if you can actually get a lot of pub from the game at the dome and the media surrounding it.

I just don't want two thursday night games a year.

But to answer your question, yes.
I went to a FSU game in Tallahassee once, a UGA game, and a Ga Southern game.

And we tried to get tickets to Bama/Clemson and Bama/Oklahoma.

I think people who are football fans can enjoy football without having a stake in the teams playing.

I've paid for tickets to non GT college football games. Do it frequently.

Haven't paid in a while outside of GT. Like CBuzz I paid what at the time was 2$ per student ticket during my four years at UGA. I have been to a few UGA games over the years, but only because my good friend and former roommate is a season ticket holder, so it's always on his dime --I do pay for parking so I'm not a total freeloader. :o

I've been to a few Peach Bowls (CFA) in the last few years but never paid for the tickets. Interesting question, other than GT I have no idea when I've paid for a ticket to a college football game.

Remember the demographics who come to the "preseason bowl." They're by and large SEC fans who rarely make it to the "big city," and might want to make more than a day out of it. Also remember that fans willing to travel to away games are more likely to also be the type of fan who'd pay for a ticket to see a game they had some but not a lot of interest in.

I wouldn't think we'd sell 10k paired tickets to Tech and the "preseason bowl," but I bet we could sell 2k. And 2k is not insignificant. Plus, if they're paired together "officially" then we get more media coverage for our opener.

Anyway, it's not my idea, I heard Drad saying something about it.

We purchase and attend many games without a rooting interest.

We enjoy the experiences of various atmospheres and venues.
