After watching the game tape last night, I realized that we didn't run the option play once on Saturday!! That play was just killing us and not to mention allowing UVA to score their only points of the game. Hopefully, we will not see it again. Good to see Nix is learning from his mistakes.

We did do the inside/outside option once I think, but you're right, it was noticably absent.

Disagree.

It could've been something we just elected to not run against VT, like what Nix saw against Troy in running the reverses. Maybe it was a personnel/scheme issue.

It may have been, but I am happy as hell that I didn't see it!!

The "QB Choice" option was definitely in our playbook. The shotgun speed option was not in the playbook vs VT.

I know we used a shotgun - bunch pitch on one or two occasions to attack the edges on the run. What else did we use? Were we just that effective between the tackles that we didn't need to use it from shotgun?

From the best of my recollection, we did run fairly well out of the I this game too.

I know towards the end of the game Choice was hitting narrow holes very well and slipping through for an extra 3+ yards on numerous plays. Looks like the level of trust between ours backs and line increased over the last week or so and there wasn't nearly as much studder stepping and looking for a hole but more going on instinct and where it should be.

Yeah, I seem to remember us going to a more traditional run formation in the second half...with Cox leading for Tashard. That was something I really don't recall us doing that often this year, so it was nice to that we can against such a well-thought-of defense. Reggie had some nice QB draws in the first half as well.

The playcalling just seemed outstanding to me overall. I loved us airing it out early to get ahead and that we could milk the game away late with the run. We got the ball to Calvin both short and deep. I'm not such a fan of that double-reverse flea flicker (!!), but overall I gained alot of confidence in Patrick Nix's offensive gameplan.

Go Jackets!

We got the ball to Calvin both short and deep.

More to the point - we lined up in an I on 3rd and 2, faked to the runningback, and threw to CJ for the first down, which he then turned into a TD in the open field.

AHEM. There were a lot of people around here the past two weeks complaining about throwing in 3rd and short...

i think we changed up the option based on VT. VT has some VERY good LBs. Expect to see it back this week vs. Maryland.

Nix is doing a good job studying the game tape and adjusting our offense week to week. Keep up the hard work, CPN!!!

Reggie may as well have pointed the LB to Tashard on that play. Choice got ran over by a freight train because Reggie never made the LB commit. I like the option, but Reggie needs to practice it at full speed more.
