I was discussing these two prospects with Statesboro boosters on the Scout.Com High School board......

They reported that both Chan Gailey and Giff Smith was at the school and in attendance at their spring practice two-three weeks ago. They said Tech is making a huge push to get these two Blue Devils....and certain blue chippers....to becoming Yellow Jackets!

FWIW, Knox is suppose to favor Georgia and Houston is a suppose to be a Georgia/Florda deal.....but Tech is starting to make alot of noise.

I'm hopeful, especially if we can get them to visit or camp.

Hasn't Georgia not offered Knox yet? Some have speculated that they are a package deal. at one point, I thought we were in the lead for one of these two, which surprised me, because as you indirectly infered, these guys are from Statesboro, and when was the last time we got a guy from here to come to GT?

Barrel: Scout.Com has Knox getting a offer from Georgia. Other than that I am not sure.

Giff Smith playing in Statesboro at Georgia Southern.... winning a Natl' Championship and All-American honors there....can't hurt us in trying to make inroads to what has been a Georgia/Florida battlefield.

I would think that Smith is very famaliar with Coach Steve Pennington from his own days of playing nearby.

Yes, UGA has offered them both. I think in the end it's going to come down to UGA/GT for them both; meaning that I believe that they're a package deal. They have said that they would like to play together at the next level and they talk about where they would want to go together.

From what I've read, it seems that Knox is a Tech lean while Houston is a Georgia lean. But it does seem that Tech is making up ground by pushing Atlanta on Houston, since he has a sister living here and he wants to be close to her.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this duo though. I'm optimistic since they both really seem to like our coaching staff, the academics Tech offers, early PT and the city of Atlanta.

Cautious because when Houston got the UGA offer he said, "it was like a dream come true." On top of that, one of them (Houston I think) might have trouble getting past The Hill.

It's gonna be tough getting these kids to come to Tech, but only time will tell I s'pose.

Knox will not make it past The Hill. It just will not happen. The offer is conditional and is there in hopes to land Houston.

Fortunately we are after a lot of people out there so we are not as tied to landing just one or two people to make the class.

We only have 17 to give.

Justin Houston is a helluva defensive end. Extremely quick 1st step, great pursuit speed, and he's very animated. John Knox has good speed and size for safety and a knack for finding the football.

Hopefully that won't dissuade Houston from coming to Tech. But good luck to Knox, he appears to be a fine player.

They\'re both not only good players, but......

....pretty good kids from what I've heard from one of the asst coaches at SHS (a fellow SHS '79 guy with me and Ronny Cone.....and who was also our starting C as well as the HC's son ;-)

He confirms that both really like GT and the staff, but like red indicated.....Knox would be a longshot as things stand now.

I think we're definitely getting interest from more SHS guys, though, as we had strong looks from both Josh Thompson and David Cone recently (although we never offered Cone, afaik)
