What depth do we have at this position? I know Reese can move over if needed, but who is best to fill in at CB?
 
Dems said Morgan Burnett is playing some corner right now, so the blow won't be that bad, but I believe he said a true frosh will step in behind Burnett.

We also have Tyler Melton out for an undetermined period of time...at least one or two games.

At CB we have a bit of an issue now as we lost Tarrant prior to the season...then we lost Frierson, who was playing well at the #2 spot behind Butler. Frierson may not be back for awhile.

Because of this, we will have sophomore Mario Butler at one corner and freshman Rashaad Reid (who has played mostly in nickel packages) on the other side. The backups will be DeRon Jasper (a sophomore that moved after not making the two deep at either safety spot) and redshirt freshman Michael Peterson.

Unfortunately this may cause the move of Burnett from the safety position in some pass coverage packages...instead of using Butler, Word, and Reid...which takes away the amount of field he is able to impact.

Also...UVA throws a lot of short passes that require the CB to make open field tackles quickly after the catch. Reid should be good at this...but we have to remember that he is a true freshman.

i would also expect teams to test him (and butler) deep...particularly FSU.
 
We saw that happen with Aaron Kelly at Clemson and ended up with four picks. I like our chances with Morgan Burnett out there.
 
If Clemson's DL is indeed better than FSUs, as RM alluded to in the other thread, then I feel pretty good about that game.

agreed:biggthumpup:... I think with Morgan Burnett moving to CB while JWD is out will be just fine

You may see that in nickel and dime packages...which will thrill opposing QB's as that limits Morgans effectiveness to one player. However, in our base defense Reid and Butler will be the CB's.

I agree. I think we will miss him more coming up and wrapping up the ball carrier. He has gotten good at wrapping up and coming up and hitting the rb.
 
Frierson was dressed for Clemson. I didn't see him play from scrimmage but I'm thought I saw him on special teams. Either way he was certainly dressed, helmet on.
 
Any word on how likely it'll be that Jahi can play vs FSU?
 
Time for Correy to catch crucial 3rd down passes for first downs. There's no more Reggie Ball excuse for our receivers having drops. Nesbitt is a more accurate passer and the receivers have better separation in the flexbone.
