I noticed on the official site that Cone will be eligible this season as he sat out 2008 due to his transfer from ShorterCollege. Not really sure about his ability and wanted to know if anyone had any insight.
His dad, Ronny Cone, played running back for Tech from '79-'83 then drafted 10th round to the Jets in '84.
The only reason my interest was peaked to begin with is I was in Boy Scouts with Kevin. He was a few years younger than me, but came across as a HUGE Tech fan and a hell of a ball player. The 1/2 pint string bean looks a lot different at 6'2", 202 lbs. He and his dad are quite literally two of the funniest, most pleasant people I've ever had a chance to be around.
Does anyone know anything else about Kevin as far as where he'll fit into the team?

I played there in '05 and the offense they run is very similar to Tech's offense, so it should be an easy transition for him. I asked one of the coaches about him just a couple of weeks ago and they thought he had a shot of doing well.

Just watching him in spring and fall practice last year he looks real good. He is physical and knows how to get open. He actually caught a TD pass in the spring game last year.

I think he will challenge for some playing time this year.

Go Jackets!

I've known Ronny since our soph yr at SHS (we came to GT Fall '79).....and, yes, he's a hoot. ;)

He's optimistic about Kevin's chances for PT, and I think his optimism is well-founded. Seems like Kevin was making "oooh" plays at least once per practice last spring. I met Kevin for the first time at fan day last summer.....nice kid.

Of course, I HAD to give Ronny holy hayull about his younger son, Zach.....who's now a FR playing baseball.......at UGAG!!!

Cone gave the first team defense problems last year when he was on scout team.

Graduated with Kevin from Pius.

Was a star on the football team, started on the basketball team that made it to the final four of AAAA who lost to eventual champion Columbia with Lance Storrs, and was a major part of the state championship track team as a sprinter.
