Just listened to Chuck and Chernoff talk to Kevin Steele Clemson DC. He discussed our triple o. Said he has already been breaking down film in preparation for us. He made the comparison of our offense to Florida's. Said we are extremely similiar we just run it from under center. Was very complimentary. He said the reason he left Alabama for Clemson bc Saban is basically the CEO of the defense and uses his asst. coaches just for input. He will have complete control over the Clemson defense. But yeah, its his vacation week and he is using it dissecting GT game film.

honestly i'm kind of worried about the clemson game. our defense is going to have to step up and make plays. clemson's two defensive ends are going to cause some problems for the 3O i think. still think we should win the game, but will be closer then i thought originally

Clemson wil be very tough. We needed 7 turnovers and still had to come from behind to win it last year.

i think we should be ok...it is at home this year. I think we'll beat them by 7-10 pts. Its very early in the season and they will be breaking in a new QB (Korn or Parker). I'd much rather catch them early than play them later in year. Ford will not have a big day against our secondary. If we can pressure the QB they will bee in for a long day. They will have to put up 30 to beat us and I do not see this happening with a new QB and our secondary.

In 1996, Georgia Southern was looking for a new head coach. The AD wanted Kevin Steele.
Erk put his weight behind PJ.
And the rest is history.

Clemson's defense maybe give us some problems but their offense is not very likely to. As long as we can field some solid run defense against them we will make it very hard for them. Not only will they be breaking in a new QB, but that same guy will be having his first road game on a thursday night at a whiteout.

I'm impressed with the comment about Florida. Most people seem too stupid to grasp the similarities between our scheme and Urban's. That worries me a little, because frankly, I'd rather we play against stupid DC's who think we run a high school offense. Still, it comes down to our execution.

I really wish someone would ask Meyer about that at a press conference or something. Get it off of the online news sites and into the air.

Most, if not all, DCs know this offense is a beeyotch to deal with. PJ's gone to head to head against a bunch of them from GSU to Hawaii to Navy and now to Tech. His reputation and that of the offense's precedes him. They knew that PJ, with that offense, coupled with Tech's athletes and its smart players was a combustible mix on the field.
It's fools like Zeier who dismiss it as a high school offense. But the guys trying to defend it know they have their hands full that week.
Like he said last week, they may get better at defending, but we'll get better at running it.

Yeah, I've posted in other threads that you never hear opposing coaches dismiss our offense, only media and opposing fans - they don't have to gameplan against it.

Awesome post.

By the way, why is everyone so worried about Clemson?????

#1. History. The game has a history of being extremely competitive.
#2. 2008. The game was extremely competitive.
#3. Recrootin 2005 to present. Clemson has outstanding athletes.
#4. Very early game with no rest. 2008 we were "slow out of the gate" and while this is year 2 it is typical for teams to have rust early. If we score in the teens or low 20s we have little room for error.
#5. Pressure. Clemson will be underdogs. They will play loose and we could be tight playing as favorites on national TV. They may have "a chip on their shoulder" and may really be focused on this game. Lore says we play better as an underdog.
#6. New staff additions at Clemson. Dabo picked up a few coaches and they seem to be an impressive group and likely an upgrade.

Dabo Swinney is a laughable coach. The game should be a blowout.

Quite frankly so is Papa Bowden at this point. I'd be shocked if Dabo doesn't provide as much positive contribution as BB does at this point. Do you expect a FSU blowout?

This wasn't "most people" talking, it was a College Football coach. They would know what's what.

And, I Guarantee you couldn't find any College DC who would describe our offense as High School and not be worried about it.

Dabo did play under one of my all time best coaches list: Gene Stallings. He's been around coaches that do it right and I think he'll be a good coach one day, but like Curry said, opposing coaches will be playing checkers while PJ is playing chess.

When's the last time you heard any coach, at any level, write off an opposing team. It's coach-speak. I enjoyed hearing coaches say last year that their team needed to play assignment football, because that meant they really didn't understand what we're doing. That was a canned answer. Hearing Steele compare our offense to UF's means he gets it. I like people not getting it more.

Even if the other team knows what's coming, when we execute, we can win. When the other team doesn't know what's coming and we execute, we end up rushing for half a mile on a Thursday night.

That wasn't my point. Of course they won't say it, but I don't believe there are any coaches who actually think our offense is "high school" like, and they aren't seriously worried about it. All DC's think like Steele, so don't be worried over it.
