Labarrie & Fein don\'t count in GT\'s grad rates.

Coach Hewitt was on 790am this morning live. He was pointing out some of the discepencies in the NCAA's report on graduation rates. Daryl Labarrie & Sean Fein do not count in GT's rate. They both transferred to Tech, both sat out a yr, both then played 2 or more yrs for Tech & both got a degree from GT. Neither count as a grad of GT.
They do, however, count AGAINST Fla A&M & Stonehill College although both earned a degree in 5 yrs or so from Ga Tech. It only counts for the school in which the athlete 1st enters college. An athlete that transfers from GT, after 1st entering school here, is a strike against Tech, even if that athlete earns a degree in 6 yrs or less.
He also pointed out that Brian Oliver went on to a pro career, where he is still earning over $300,000 playing in Europe, before graduating from Tech. Oliver has come back to GT when he could & has earned a degree from Tech, but is a strike against GT as he did not graduate in 6 yrs time.
It works the same for all sports in the NCAA. Hewitt did not say how Isenhour will count on GT's grad rate. Hewitt made the whole grad rate thing sound like it was pretty farcial. Just because they played 4 full yrs for your program & u kept them moving toward a degree the whole time, it may not mean a thing & will become a strike against u if they don't graduate.
Coach Hewitt is very, very good on live radio. Sounded like he did it every day. Very entertaining for the 'hosts' as well & I could see them asking him back often.
PS: Casey Loesch, Garren Findlay & AJ Suggs will all graduate from GT, but none of them will count as a grad for GT's football team. So sad.

That's why this whole grad rate thing is so bogus. To me if you must look at it the rate which is meaningful is the rate for those who used up their eligibility. I also think transfers shouldn't count at all for either school. Don't know how you can get at it, but what is bad about college athletics are the kids who spend 4-5 years playing at a school then can't get a degree because they never took courses that led to a degree.
