ESPN said:o where will Kiffin best fit in 2017?
Fresno State: Kiffin played quarterback at Fresno State from 1994 to 1996 and started his coaching career as a graduate assistant for Pat Hill in 1997. Sources say former Cal coach and current Washington Huskies consultant Jeff Tedford is the clear leader for the job -- Tedford and Fresno State AD Jim Bartko worked together at both Oregon and Cal. But if Bartko looks beyond Tedford, Kiffin could be a fascinating option for a program that needs a jolt.![]()
South Florida: Bulls coach Willie Taggart likely will have opportunities to move on, especially in market lacking strong Group of 5 candidates. Kiffin had interest in the UCF job last season and could excel in Tampa, a strong recruiting area. Sources say working in Tampa would entice Kiffin, whose father, Monte, served as the Buccaneers' defensive coordinator from 1996 to 2008.![]()
Houston: No potential Group of 5 opening will be more competitive than Houston, which has shown it will pay its coach and invest in all elements of its program. Kiffin would be competing with current head coaches, perhaps even some Power 5 bosses disgruntled with their situations, to land what's seen as the ultimate springboard job. But if Houston wants a young, offensive-minded coach who can recruit with the best -- sounds a lot like Herman, right? -- it could do worse than Kiffin.![]()
Georgia Tech: This is a unique situation, as Paul Johnson's job doesn't appear to be in jeopardy. Georgia Tech is not swimming in money, as Johnson's recent line -- "Commitment has to meet expectations" -- seemed to underscore. But if new athletic director Todd Stansbury wants to make a splash at a program that struggles to gain attention, Kiffin presents an interesting option. Atlanta is arguably the nation's top recruiting hotbed.![]()
