that this is Gailey's "best class ever" (despite scout's rankings that say it is our worst with only 15 players and being ranked at 53..as in not even in the top 50). His argument is the ave. number stars and says it is simply bc our numbers are low. True..but only 15 players that are mostly mid-tier (heck, he didn't even fill the full allotment) is pitiful..and deserving of being ranked near the bottom of the ACC.

I don't know whether to /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugher.gif or /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif at his "best ever" statement. It is comical, but yet, so sad for the program. There is so much wrong with being happy about this recruiting sitatuion that to sugar coat it by laughing at critics is..simply amazing.

Correction...

Scout.com has changed our recruiting class ranking! We're now 55th instead of 53rd. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Also, I checked Rivals.com for their ranking. They have GT at 54th.

if you're a #*(!@#$%$#%$$^@# DAWG like lawbee then it is a good signing class for Tech. For lawbee good for Tech=Bad for lawbee(UGA), bad for Tech=good for lawbee(UGA), nuff said.

Re: Correction...

Some of you people just kill me! Reading the post these last couple of days, and seeing many of you sugar coat our performance in recruiting is amazing. You say we fall short in our numbers in recruiting because of our superior academics? Then why do schools like ND consistently recruit top classes. We need to quit usng acedemics as the crutch and really look at whats holding us back! Braine maybe? no doubt issues there! Now we need to look at our coaching staff. Well, there is certainly no one else to blame here other than CCG!
Well, its time for me just to accept reality! We will forever be a mediocre football program and probably wont see another championship team. so be it! at least we have baskeball! (thats not looking too good either!)

If You Assume These Rankings ....

are somewhat accurate, then it looks as if the ACC as a whole didn't do very well at all. F$U is highest at only #17. Fortunately it means we didn't lose as much ground as we could have given the limited numbers and looming probation penalties.

when USC only had 15 recruits a week ago..they were ranked #2 - so the lack of numbers theory is bogus.

Re: Correction...

Yes, Yes!

It is a wheelchair and no longer a crutch. Tech is hard. So what? It's always been hard!

Academics have very little to do with the kids that can qualify athletically to play ball at UVA, Michigan, Duke, Stanford, Northwestern, Notre Dame, etc. The list of fine schools go on and on. They want to win.
Before any Tech students or fellow graduates get in an uproar, the majority of Tech athletes do not co op for NASA.
They are smart kids for sure, but when athletes are considered for scholarships, help from tutors is considered.
There are a few brilliant students, but there are very smart kids on every school's roster.

What I hate the most is my uneasy feeling that the folks in charge of our football program look for excuses under the sofa cushions of the Edge building instead of understanding its mission, and then executing. Even worse, I fully believe that this same leadership group has expectations far below what the fans and most alumni expect.

Bill Curry is the only person I have heard that gets it. I won't even try to quote him, but his message is that...

Ga. Tech expects to win championships. We understand that it will be harder to achieve at Tech, but that is what we will do. That will sound snooty to some, but so be it.

Of course, he will not be forgiven for going to Ala. nearly 20 years ago.

Maybe what Tech needs is a good old fashioned (non violent) coup d'etat.

obviously YOU know more than ESPN. And there ranking of 32 is b/c CG has bought them off.

This right up there when you said "we beat 2 teams in the top 25"

do you think that is an accurate statement?

After we beat ND I will be here with the BIG /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hugelaugh.gif RUBBING IT IN ALL THE GAILEY HATERS FACE

and then when we manage to lose in an embarassing way to whoever (which I hope doesnt happen, but lets be realistic, its likely) then they'll be right here to rub it in yours.

Ah the circle of life.

Re: Correction...

Recruiting those dumbarses who couldn't make it at Tech like y'all are insisting we do is why we could only sign a max of 17 this year. We are on probation because kids couldn't cut it in the classroom and we played them anyway.

We only signed 15 because we are limited on total number so signinig less this year would allow for more the next. We could have signed more, but there wasn't anyone left that we could have gotten that we reallt liked...plus we lost 2, but everybody loses somebody almost every year.

USC had only 15 and were ranked 2nd, but they only had 5 and 4 stars. They are also arguably the best team in the country right now...as far as talent, coach, recent success, etc. They are Totally not comparable with our situation.

Being ranked around 50ish sucks, but we are an academic institute first and foremost(I wish we tried to be more equal) and an athletics minded place second.

As far as Bill Curry...I do want a firey guy who wants nothing more than to win, but I don't want a Jerry Jones Type(Dallas Cowboys) who gets so involved that it is actually counterproductive...plus he has no experience and he is in his mid 60s. We'll see how that works out in the next couple of months.

Go Jackets!!!
I'm Damned proud to have 15 more hellacious engineers(or management majors) on campus. I know that they will bring us the kind of success we want and need.

GT 14-0 2006/07 National Champs(Until I'm PROVED otherwise)

Re: Correction...

Please don't try to make this a simple issue. If GOL recruited people who couldn't make it here, that was lazy recruiting.
I don't want dumbarses at Tech! If India and China know and respect Ga. Tech enough to send us their best students, why can't we do the work to be on the minds of the best and brightest athlete/students around the country.
We educate the world, but do our football recruiting like we are Ga. Southern.

I am proud and thankful for every young man that committed to Tech today. That's not the point.
My point is I am sick of the belly aching about not being able to recruit the state of Ga. like our head coach wants.

Re: Correction...

Most top ranked football players don't care about their education...that's simply a fact. USC has one of the worst performances in the country at eduating their athletes, that's a fact as well. Tech is limited in the number of kids we can recruit, and in the number interested in us because of our curriculum and math requirements...those are also facts. None of this means we can't recruit top level (top 25) classes though, although IMO we can never recruit top 10 classes. Where our coaching staff comes up short IMO is in identifying the right kids and then selling them on the reasons why Tech as a school and athletic department are best for them. We need better salesmen on the staff and we definitely have to recruit nationally to make an impact. That's the main reason I think Curry should be seriously considered. We have to generate excitement...Chan is too bland IMO to get much attention.

Our only alternative is to find some majors in the semi-liberal arts we have and find a way to reduce the math requirements. I have a daughter who is a jr in HS and who is an athlete (not college level) and she knows many kids who are hoping to play sports at that level. Girls and tennis players are the only ones who would even try Tech. They simply aren't that interested in school. Make the majors we have easier (and maybe more importantly sound easier) and we can expand our base.

Obviously youre missing the comparison I was trying to make regarding rankings and points - that being more recruits does not mean higher rankings as some are trying to say (Law Bee).

Re: Correction...

Actually they do, but it won't make the difference between a top 5 class and #50. The team rankings take in all kinds of factors, some of which don't make much sense and some of which are so arcane and subjective that it beggars the imagination. I can buy someone being able to pick his top 100 players by watching film, listening to coaches and copying from others. But anyone who believes the "science" involved is accurate enough to rank classes meaningully from 1 -117 is crazy. These should be "ranked" in groups...that's the only way to make any sense of it.

Re: Correction...

just keeping the numbers accurate here...

Rivals and Scout have both changed our rankings. GT dropped a little a further in both to #56.

I can't believe that a fan of ours would even consider this as an outcome of our game with the Irish. Grow a set of 'em. I expect to win. You hope for a loss so you can walk around thumping your chest saying "I told you so". I don't give a flying frog's butt who our coach is, I want GT to win each and every game and NEVER let this type of loser attitude enter my mind.

You let UGAg fans pick on you, don't you?

What matters most is what we do with these players in the S&C program and on the practice field. You then see results on gameday. I don't recall there being an awards ceremony for the top ranked recruiting class.

I said it last year in a post and I'll say it again to the chicken littles out there. Specifically which player in this signing class does not deserve to wear the white and gold?

I see a fine bunch of recruits that with proper coaching and S&C work will make excellent football players. Imagine Ingram at QB with about 35 more pounds on his frame and perhaps another inch of growth (6'6"?)as a RS junior. What is not to get excited about a RB that amassed 6,000 yards in his career? How about a safety that is taller and bigger than UGAg's top rated safety and yet had almost identical stats?

Calm down already. We have some good ballplayers on the team.

Sorry, bud. I know this guy will be no where to be found if we lose. Actually, my mistake, he'll be right here spinning and making hilarious posts.
