Legitimate sources tell me Gailey is an excellent recruiter...

I had the opportunity to visit with the Hoover High (Birmingham AL) head football coach recently. BTW, Hoover is the best high school football program in Alabama and currently houses the #1 recruit in the state, a WR. The head coach was extremely complimentary of Coach Chan stating as a matter of fact "that he is an excellent recruiter". We have a shot at the WR. He was not complimentary of other staffs from the SEC. Again, Hoover is akin to Parkview/Brookwood and this head coach deals with all the college coaches (heads and assistants) and he is very much a Chan fan.

Like everyone, I am frustrated with the losses and have witnessed the past two from the bleaders. I also want to see Bilbo start...and finish. I believe the talent of this young man would generate a great deal of enthusiasm from prospective recruits. But, perhaps we need to get out of Chan's way a bit here and let him do his work. I believe he is an excellent football coach.

Hope you are correct, and really do not doubt it. But what I really want to see the rest of the season is a team with some pride, fire and motivation. You do not have to be the best team to stop making the same mistakes. I want to see our coach take them above their limitations. What I want to see is a TEAM willing to take an opponents head off.

Chad Jackson, the WR he is talking about is for real!!!!! A big receiver (6'1, 205) that plays much bigger than that with breakaway speed.Would be a huge pickup for us.

Being a great recruiter does not necessarily mean you'll be a great coach. It's happened often in may areas. Example, up the road a piece.

Once you get them you've got to coach them and we have some pretty good recruits on campus right now! Enough said.

You said "legitimate sources" told you Chan Gaailey is a great recruiter, but you mentioned one source, from whose school Chan has, so far, recruited exactly nobody. Who are your other "legitimate sources?"

And if he is such a great recruiter, why hasn't he recruited like one and why has he written off the state of Georgia?

"Legitimate sources" are great, but they don't put players in the program, games in the win column, or fans in the stands. By the way, "legitimate" sources also said he was a great coach.

Actually I do not know if CG has recruited poorly.

ACE and Bridges (the only two CG recruits that have played thus far) look like fine Div 1 ballplayer that will do many great things at GT.

Do we the fans KNOW what is going on? NO WE DON'T

ALL THAT MATTERS IS COME FEB we have 25 great student-athletes signed.

Maybe we have an expectation to be kept abreast, but that does not mean that expectation will be fulfilled.

I NEED ALL THE POSITIVES I can get right now. So if anybody even THINKS they heard something positive I want it posted immediately.

Thanks for the post Barry.

Law, I agree. We all need positives. Lord know there is enough negatives on the boards.

Go Jackets!

Ace And Bridges were recruited first by O'Leary's staff and Ace gave his commitment the day before
O'Leary announced he was leaving but Chan and his staff continued to recruit Bridges and it was the new staff that got the commitment from this fine player.

I don't think we know if Chan is a great recruiter or not. He hasn't done it in quite a while.

I'm sure there are lots of coaches who think Chan is a swell guy.

I think the question turns on whether he signs the kids.

The smart money is betting that O'Brien is led to the slaughter this year for the sins of Gailey. If that is the case, and O'Brien figures as much, how could anyone expect any recruits to come from O'Brien's watch? Some of the other coaches may also be expecting their walking papers, and will be too busy checking out the coaching want ads to be effective recruiters.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">I don't see what BOB has done to warrant this kind of blind devotion. He has been mediocre in both playcalling and development of QB's during his 1+ year as OC. Both coaches say that it is his offense and he is calling the plays.

Blind devotion? I am just pointing out how recruiting will be compromised when and if coaches are removed. They usually see it coming and don't give their recruiting responsibilities a 100% effort. They are also not as effective, even if they are giving 100%, if the recruit feels that this coach is on shaky ground.
