Let\'s look at the drop off of 2 deep

1)QB-not much of a drop from Suggs to Bilbo. Nice.
2)RB-big drop to Clinkscales, Hatch. Ford should give us the 1-2 punch & RBs tend to get injuries.
3)WR-good size drop from Watkins, Glover, Smith to Thomas, Bridges, Logan. Still, that's a good 2nd string.
4)TE-virtually no diff from Foshi to Heller. Nice. Dropoff to Lee, Bougouis. Need D Wiiliams to start improving.
5)LT-big drop from Dorsey to Beserevic.
6)LG-big drop from Robinson to Tidwell-Neal.
7)C-not too much between Reilly to Cleland
8)RG-very little between Roberts-Blake to Hartley. Nice.
9)RT-not a lot from Wallace to Honeycutt. Almost nice.
10)DE-big drop from Gathers, Hargrove to Wright, Holiday.
11)DT-good size diff in experience & size between Johnson, Malone & Henderson, Parker. The 2nd line is coming on, tho.
12)LB-virtually no drop off to Brown, Lawston. Very nice. Smith is so good it makes the drop to Etheridge larger than it really is. Nice. the drop to Bowers-Wilkerson, Anyansi is also small. Very, very nice.
CB-virtually no drop off from Hester, Cox to Houston, Poree. Nice.
S-good bit of diff from Muyres, Collins to Butler, Burton. Burton, Butler getting BETTER & Landry is also coming. Almost nice.

Comment on #11.

Parker was playing a large part of the game with the 1st team D Saturday night. Pretty much held his own. Looked pretty good for his first significant playing time IMO.

Interesting post and thoughts. This shows again that O'Leary left the program in good shape.

You forgot these - very important positions and often over looked by many.

P - Not a significant drop (if any) Dyke to Morehouse
K - Big drop Magnet to Burnett/Jordan (based on experience) but I think Jordan is reported to have a great leg.

Outstanding analysis Ace (also liked your new players post)

as far as kickers go, I'm hoping we can redshirt Jordan (since he's a smart guy, can someone talk him into going for his MBA on the GTAA's dime?).

Re: Let\'s look at the drop off of 2 deep

ramblinwise1 - Bridges did start against Vandy.

He was on the field for the 1st play - very impressive for a T-Fr, injuries or not! There are still older guys behind him. I can't really say talentwise how he compares to Watkins or Smith or Glover but he's definately a drop based on experience. For now. If he had caught Bilbo's bomb he might have earned a starting spot right there.

Re: Let\'s look at the drop off of 2 deep

Can't remember the last time we had two kickers play while keeping a guy like Jordon on the sideline. Thought that was excellent. I too would love to see Jordon redshirt and have him for the next 4 years. Thought he was out best kickoff guy in practice. With that being said thought Luck and Bennett did a great job kicking off against Vandy.

Re: Let\'s look at the drop off of 2 deep

WR Didn't Bridges start the game? Don't think he's a dropoff at all. Better size and speed than Watkins and Glover, just needs the experience.

K Jordan was a nationwide top 10 kicker recruit. Hope we don't lose him by trying to redshirt him if he wants to play. I had hoped we would use him this year on K/O and very long F/G. CG should have a talk with the young man and find our where his head is...

DT Parker started in place of injured Gary Johnson, IIRC

Re: Let\'s look at the drop off of 2 deep

My comment is that -the 2nd unit guys were almost of no value SAT. Where's BILBO?Are there any other receivers besides Watkins? To my knowledge no #2 off lineman played. The D line rotated but with Gathers down we were using Fox as a DE,pleeze. We have no depth at DB.Poree missed the tackle on the long punt return not to mention the comical attempt at downing a punt.I wonder why he isn't playing regular?
At this point who cares who is on the 2nd unit.

Re: Let\'s look at the drop off of 2 deep

The duty of kicking off to the other team is such a big part of the game, it would not be wise to put a player on red-shirt status if he can kick the ball into the end zone. I don't care if we have 15 seniors that can kick to the five yard line, we need the player that can place the ball in the back of the end zone on each kick off.

You never have to worry about the great kick returner from the opposition when you have this kind of kicker. I sure hope it is not the special teams coach that is making this decision.
