Let\'s talk about your OL

We have a redshirt freshman that appears to be the real deal. His name is Jovan Haye. He's nasty. I'm hoping he gets lots of penetration. Maybe he doesn't pan out, but I'm curious about how well your OL is going to protect your QB. What are they geared for pass protection or run blocking?

Re: Let\'s talk about your OL

Well, the left side of our line is mean. I'm talkin' plum mad-dog mean. We do have some depth problems throughout.

Left Tackle - Nat Dorsey - this kid turned Julius Peppers from UNC into a Jr. High Sissy boy last year. He's awesome.

Left Guard - Leon Robinson - big and tough

I think they can do it all, run block and pass block. The right side of the line is a little bit more patchwork, but they'll be OK.

It's hard for me to say which they do better, since we've run and passed equally over the years. If I had to pin it down, I'd say we're overall a better pass blocking team. But I've seen us pound and pound teams with the run if we have a physical advantage.

You'd better hope your DL is strong. If they're weak, I think we'll run it down your throat...plus, we'll throw in some option.

First team O-line looks good. Lack of depth due to injury, and missing out on a couple of stud lineman on last year's recruiting class due to coaching change (signed only one) could hurt us big time if any of the first team get injured.
Also we lost one of the best O-line coaches in the business, so we will just have to wait and see how the coaching change affects us.
Let's hope we get no injuries.

They're equally prepared for pass protection, run blocking, you name it. I'd hate to be any team with lack of experience coming into Grant Field to play us right now. Its a no win situation. You don't stand a chance.

Re: Let\'s talk about your OL

Dores, I shared the same concern that Beeware did when we lost coach Mac.

However, it appears from reading some of our practice reports we may have made an upgrade in our OL coach as well. We hired a guy from Duke who coached their OL and had put a few guys in the NFL. Pretty stout order for a program like DUke. Every report that I have read seems to point out how well our OL is performing. If it is true, then we should be fine. As it has already been pointed out, the 1st team is fine.

It will depend on how well we can develop the 2nd string as to how far we go this year. That shouldn't be a problem in the first game though, which may not be what you wanted to hear.

YOu guys played Duke the past few years. How was their OL?

I'm not so worried about the OL as I am the safties. They have had the propensity to give up some long balls.

Re: Let\'s talk about your OL

There is a nice article here.

Basically the right side is inexperienced and the left side is going to be awesome. Quality depth is lacking. One of the biggest questions about this team is how well the OL comes together. If they come together, the offense could quickly gell and then *BAM* look out.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">beeware, I actually agree with you on one point... it would have been nice to get more than ONE OL in the past class. We'll have to make up for it by getting like 5-6 this year. And I like Eddy Parker as a start. Hope he signs come FEB.

As for our current OL coach, here's something Wes Durham told me yesterday after he asked what I liked about the team & I responded Bridges & OL coach... Duke has had 6 players drafted in the past 3 years in the NFL and 5 of them were from the OL. That was interesting and shows to me that he knows what he's doing. He's great on the field. He's one of our best coaches, IMO. Wes said too many people were caught up in the fact that he came from Duke.
