Little Joe Ready to Coach

FANTASTIC!

Great accomplishment for Joe & Brian. That's what it's all about.

I'm just shocked you were able to beat geetee to the punch in posting the link ;>

Too bad we don't have an opening. Not sure what kind of coach he would make, but it would definitely help in recruiting, QB development, etc.

Yeah, sure wish we had a slot. Or maybe that we could give him a grad assistant position and fit him in the next time we have one.

Great players do not always make great coaches...but I will definitely follow him to see how he does.

There are a lot of guys out there we would like to put on staff first such as Glenn Spencer, Geoff Collins, George Godsey, Brent Key, Nathan Burton, etc.

I would trust Ralph's judgement on whether or not Joe would make a good coach.

Ralph has his own problems...his offense has really lacked the past few years. We have really been handing it to him!

very true. great OC...loved having him at GT.

just not a hc...he cannot surround himself with great people either.

I've never heard anyone say that Ralph was a warm and cuddly type of guy. I am sure he is a hard one to work for. But, it isn't like he has the nations best AD working with him. The AD has a huge hand in hiring assistants. They may or may not be able to force people on a coach. The AD certainly controls the purse strings. A good AD will also have a fair number of contacts on thier own.

If I remember correctly, Tenuta was brought in by Dave B, not by Chan.

Dave B recommended Tenuta to Chan. Chan did the interviewing.

One way or another, I remember O'Leary saying he used to eavesdrop on the offensive time-outs to hear the discussion between Joe and Fridge, because it was some of the best football talk he'd ever heard. Joe and Fridge had chemistry, and understood each other, and if Joe can impart that understanding to Fridge's QBs we're in deep doodoo.

That said, I heard Joe's first choice to work was Tech, and we couldn't find him a spot. Understandable, but very, very unfortunate.

Exactly. I don't think that the UMD AD has those kinds of contacts. Ralph certainly knows a lot of coaches, but he could use a bigger circle of friends. He is competing with O'Leary, Roof, and probably Beamer for assistants.

Joe is smart, he knows football. If he is motivated to be a coach, I'll betcha he'll be a very, very good one.

Well, if he just graduated, then he hasn't been an option until now. Since it's time for the season to start, I would think that almost every school has all their slots filled. Joe will probably have to hang on til after the season for someone to have a spot open, unless somebody just leaves early.
