I have been a head football coach now for 10 years and I can assure you that when we hear boos(and we don't hear many of them ;-)) it doesn't affect me, my coaches or my players. I can understand why it's done. It's basically a way to let the team and coaches know that,"hey, we aren't very happy with what's going on right now." I kind of look at it like,"well, at least they care enough about the team to care about what's going on." Do I think it's disrespectful? No I don't. Would I do that to my Jackets? No I wouldn't. But it doesn't bother me to hear my fellow tech fans do it. We love our Jackets and when things aren't going so good some express theirselves differently than others.

I agree, Coach! We were always taught growing up that booing is not "nice". However, if we can cheer to express approval, how else to express disapproval? I have found GT fans actually quite restrained. The prolonged frustration just got too much to keep in tow. How else can the fans say, "Do something different, Coach. Even we can see this is not working!"

Glad to hear from a coach's viewpoint.

what do your potential recruits sitting in the stands or watching on TV think? (this assumes that you are coaching above peewee league or high school level)

Dust Jacket, I will assure there has never been a team of any kind in the history of the universe that has not been praised and has not been booed. There is no player to exist anywhere in the universe who has played sports and not heard some boos.

Face it, it has and always will be part of the game and is justified. I doubt seriously if you attended the games when Bill Lewis was at Tech that you held back the boos.

If things get that bad again, I will assure you there will plenty of boos and they will be deserved.

I was there and I assure you, I used the most vile foul language that has ever been uttered in BDS but I did not boo. I hated BL before he staggered in, I hated him when he was here, and I hate him now. But I never booed because kids and recruits dont know for sure if you are booing a worthless piece of crap like BL or you are booing them. So I dont do it, and no one else should either. Target your criticism. Dont spread it like you are shoveling manure. Do you think Kelly Rhino deserves your boos? Hollings? If you are incapable of expressing targeted criticism, thats a shame.

This discussion has probably run its course. Lets just agree to disagree. I wont boo and I wont try to knock your block off if you boo.

GO JACKETS!!

Jacket, I appreciate your experience. However, the question is not what you or I think about booing. It is what others "might think" about it. If there is any doubt about the outcome and the interpretation, then it is simple: play it safe and don't do it.

If I had a daughter, I would dress her in white and gold and put her on the campus to "Cheer the Brave and Bold." But if I had a son, sir, I tell you what he'd do. He would yell to hell with Georgia (boo Georgia) like his Daddy use to do.

We cheer Georgia Tech and boo UGAG.

Have we beaten this dead horse enough?
