Per their board, he's been offered the job. Pretty good hire for them if true, just glad they didn't have the sense to hire Neuheisel.

Why not, I'd go crazy if Duke football ended up on probation, and in my opinion, you can't have enough hatable coaches at Duke.

Guess now well have to cover their running backs on the delayed wheel route. Good hire, they will have the patience Ole Miss lacked.

Damn, I guess the resume I submitted simply wasn't enough. I'll go winless for only a fraction of the cost of a real head coach.

He's a good choice since he should be capable of getting a good quarterback. Duke was at its best when they had a gunslinger back there.

You would have gotten the job if you had stated that the Tech-Duke game was the most important game of the year and that beating Tech was superior to winning any championship. You might have thrown in something about how you wouldn't mind losing every other game as long as you beat your biggest rival (Tech, of course).

If true, I think he panicked. For him to take this job it makes clear that he would take ANY HC job. If/When he fails at dook, will he ever get another shot? Should have waited for something else.

Maybe it's all about getting the money now.

That's what I was thinking. He coulda probably stayed put and garnered a better job a few years later, maybe even Tennessee.

he hasn't taken it yet. In fact, he's in Ohio recruiting today (presumably still for the Vols).

He might take it, though. I'm guessing he's their #1 target right now.

One thing Duke is offering is an immediate and drastic pay increase. For whatever reason, the offers from more reputable programs aren't coming in and the decision is between a coordinator's salary for another year or a HC salary which should at least be double.

If he takes it, it will be interesting to see how he does. What Duke really needs is more academic exceptions and better facilities and Cutliffe may need to deliver a couple promising seasons before he gets those.

It seems like the search committee really wanted to hire Dorrell, but he went back to the left coast and had little success with getting a quality staff to commit to come work with him at Duke. Cutcliffe will probably be as good as they can do, but I don't see him building a winning program there.

new update.....a Cutcliffe family member just indicated she (and others) expect him to take it.

Should be a decent hire for the Dookies. Cutcliffe is a good man and most likely knows what he's getting into there. I'm a little surprised that he would leave TN a second time but obviously the man wants to be a HC. If true, Dook has got them the best they could.

If true, I think he panicked.

He's 53 and he got fired from his last HC stint.

Panicking is the correct response!

(Especially since the phone doesn't seem to be ringing off the hook and Ainge is gone at UT.)
