Lyons out

I thought he was an A-Back backup? Do we not have any dedicated B-Backs outside of Dwyer, Lyons and Watson?

What about Drummond?

AFAIK, Daniel is going to be redshirted.

Lucas can play both positions if he needs to but I don't really think we need to be 4-deep at B-back including Preston.

Exactly
Cox is the emergency, we got no one else, back-up.

True.

But Jon didn't have much success running up the middle either. Jon's only big play came from the B-back option pitch.

Yea I made another thread about the middle running game....

I think that we could have done more to open up the middle for JD, but I'm not a coach, so what do I know? :)

For the most part they were jamming up the middle. It isn't the goal to open up the middle, the goal is to take what they give you which is why the QB's had a good day running the ball. They combined for around 150 yards which is probably more than any game last year except VT.

There was a play where Watson almost broke it but got tackled by his ankle, Dwyer may have housed it. The only other Dive play that could have been big was where Josh missed his read and should gave given to Cox who would have been untouched for a big gain.

Also coach said Cox and Allen will backup at B back this week

Cox will be the #2 B-back now. With Jones, Allen, Peeples, Wright, Smith and Malone we can dedicate him to B-back. Watson ran well, but Cox is far more experienced, and should get the nod. Hope Lyons gets back soon. He's a good back.

I forget where I read or heard it, may have been last week's CPJ call-in show, but Lucas is to be a dedicated A-back. Surprised me a little bit because Lucas's size and speed seem better suited at B-back. I think CPJ sees him as more of a blocker though.

Actually CPJ disputed this notion in the call in show. Something to the effect that Cox was exclusively an A back was news to him. Saying his natural position is B back, etc.
