Looks like he finally won the big game. Can't win one any bigger. I'm glad Texas won.
 
I remember at Breakfast With George one year O'Leary saying that he hoped Mack Brown would stay at UNC because he was not a good coach and would never win more than 7 or 8 games a year there regardless of the talent he recruited.
 
didn't Mack win 10+ games each of his last two seasons at UNC?
 
He first came to Texas as the TE's coach...something like that...then moved to OL.

Mack has never been a coordinator. He is a great guy though.

Gailey would have like to keep Mac on staff in some capacity...and Mac would have liked to stay. I will leave it at that.
 
Guess he's glad now he didn't stay. It's good to see good guys come out on top.
 
I doubt he would say he was glad he did not get to stay. He really wanted to retire in the state of Georgia so he could be closer to family while finishing out his career.

I am sure he is happy to have the national title though.

Things happen for a reason. I am happy for him.
 
I've liked Brown ever since that press conference about 2 years ago after a loss to OU when he said "Players win games, coaches lose them".

Its a job for the coach, it should be fun (though a hell of a lot of work) for the kids, and he knows it, he lets them take all the credit for wins and backs out of the spotlight pretty quickly. Love the way him, and Young to a large exstint, keep the team loose but playing hard. Great way to end a year, congrats UT... nothing is sweeter than winning the big one at the old one, enjoy the roses boys.
 
Didn't Brown leave unc after getting screwed out of a bigger bowl.
Maybe that's not why he left, but did get jobbed on a bowl game.
 
I know he was gone before the '97 Gator Bowl... seems like a pretty good bowl to me, but I can't remember any details of why he left.
 
Mack Brown was hired to TEXAS as the HeadCoach.

Mac McWhorter was hired by Mack Brown as OL coach.

Mac McWhorter is now the Assisant Head Coach and the OL coach. He was the one wearing the headset last night, standing to the right of Mack Brown.

Mac McWhorter's winning percentage at GT is 100%.
 
Thanks for that. The details are a bit less blurry now. I think fsu got the bcs bowl nod over unc and it PO'd Brown.
I may have the wrong team, but it was something like that.

Possibly ala Batchelor, Brown at least used something like that to got to a real football school.
