Malcolm Munroe
ATH | 6'3" 195

Hometown: Miami, FL
School: Coral Reef High School

ESPN Rating: 80

Evaluation: Munroe is a tall, rangy, well-built athlete who excels at any defensive position he is employed at. He is a supreme blend of size and speed. Displays great fast-twitched athleticism and plays with a good burst and suddenness as a football player. Possesses the frame to add a good amount of bulk while retaining his current speed. He is projected as an outside backer with playmaker potential at the next level. Flashes a great jump to the football and the closing speed that should make him a threat attacking on the perimeter. Good change-of-direction ability allows him to mirror quicker skill players in space. He is quicker than he is fast but shows good sideline-to-sideline chase speed. Coverage range and skill could be his best attributes. Shows great feet, fluidity and a smooth pedal at cornerback, particularly for a tall athlete. Should be able to level off and blanket his underneath flat at outside linebacker in college while also providing great man-to-man matchups on quicker slots. While he shows raw strength separating, holding outside leverage and stringing the run to the sideline, he will need to improve his strength and power as an edge player and at the point of attack. Lateral mobility through the fast moving traffic is also a question mark; he currently excels as a vertical attacker. Diagnosing skills and his ability to read and react in the box need polish. Bottom line, when Monroe concentrates on one position in college and refines his current physical tools -- he has a chance to be a good player. Continued physical development could dictate college position, defensive end with his explosive take-off and rangy frame is not out of the question. Great athlete.

Apparently Munroe has named Tech the clear leader for his services. I really hope that we make this happen. Malcolm is a phenomenal prospect and would be the perfect strong side compliment to Pridemore in the middle and Sylvester or Machen on the weak side.

Will be interesting! I see us taking one more LB, but who knows really.

Sounds like some very good talent left on our board!

I think the next one to jump on board will shut the door. We'll see!

This will be interesting. Apparently we would take a 4th...our staff really wants Chase Thomas as well.

Sabino appears to be Miami or UNC bound.
Chase probably has Auburn as an edge over GT (his buddy Bailey Woods hung out there last weekend). I will find out more on that hopefully.
Munroe very well could end up being the 4th LB. It appears we are no longer recruiting Stuckey.

Kind of got that feeling about Chase as well. Seems his father was impressed with AU. The Chase battle seems to be one that will drang out too long, but don't know.

I have a good hunch about Fitzgerald. Haven't done the reseach and not sure if any of these guys have set up official visits yet.

:fingersx:

We have 3 LB's committed already. Do we really NEED any more? Sure, 3 LB's isn't much, but 3 from each class adds up to 12.

LB's also become DE's and ST Players. Add in the fact that we're a bit light on all of those and yes, we'd take em and need em.

Bingo

...this is not a case of filling a need...these are great athletes that you keep taking regardless of the numbers.

That's great and all, but DE's and LB's aren't our biggest need. We need DT's, OL's, TE's, and a few WR's more than anything. Unless some of these LB's can turn into one of the aforementioned, we'll get thinner in those areas. ST players can come from other positions as well - CB/WR/RB being a few.

...and we have a lot of DB's coming in...we got several rangy athletes last year...we had to cut off WR's as we lose none this year and have two star types coming in next year. RB...same deal...we are stacked. All of these will help on ST.

DT's have always been the challenge...and the past few years we have had the best DT's we have seen at Tech in years and years.

We are trying to steal Brandon Thompson from Clemson when others gave up. We are trying to tack Barnes from Auburn....and we are one of two schools that are probably at the top of Uzzi's list.

At TE...we want one...and we hope Hightower will fill that.

Plus....we have already identified a lot of players for next year.

When it comes to needs, every team has needs unless you are SoCal or Florida!!

I will definitely concede that point to you.

I guess it's really a mott point since we most likely will have a few scholarships left over when all is said and done (to be used for walk-ons of course).

It is really too bad we did not have these extras last year. It looks like we will only sign about 23...players that we want to use schollies on this year unless some senior start-up's present themselves (i.e. Vance Walker, Colin Peek, Sedric Griffin).

As of now we have 74 on scholarship and 17 seniors...which means 28 spots minus any walk-on's that get ships like Calvin Booker. maybe RB Clyburn...maybe a couple others.

Regardless of what happens it appears we can sign the full 25 next year if we find the right players.

Dont'a Hightower?! Looks like a good kid. From AL? It says low interest but it sounds like it may be otherwise?! When I looked him up in prospects on scout he didn't even come up....oh well. thanks for the info as always hivered.

He is from Lewisburg, TN...4-star fwiw...biggest knock to me is his height...here is the Scout link:

fwiw...Rivals has him as a 3-star and rated the #8 player in Tennessee...here is their link:

Chan said, early in his career at Tech, that he would only sign players that can help him win ACC and NC's. And from my perspective, he has stayed that course.

Every year it seems he doesn't fill the obvious need at a certain position and yet we seem to keep on rolling. That I can tell, he has never fully utilized his scholarships even while we were on probation.

I wonder if he is too honest and doesn't want to worry about overbooking, etc. Regardless, when it comes to team building, Chan is the Man and I don't worry in the least.

And yes, I'd like to see a couple of DT's too.
