Georgia Tech

'07 record: 7-6 (4-4 ACC).
New coach: Paul Johnson, formerly Navy's head coach.
What he inherits: Scared off by Johnson's triple-option offense, incumbent QB Taylor Bennett, top receiver James Johnson and two other pass-catchers bolted, but fleet-footed sophomore Josh Nesbitt appears well suited to play quarterback in Johnson's offense and Jonathan Dwyer will be the primary running threat. Three very talented defensive linemen return -- end Michael Johnson and tackles Vance Walker and Darryl Richard -- but the rest of the defense looks depleted.
'08 prospects: Mark it down: Johnson will eventually win big at Tech like he has at every previous stop -- but this transition year could be ugly. While some of the pieces are there to run Johnson's "flexbone spread," they're young and short on numbers. Meanwhile, the defense -- a mainstay under former coordinator Jon Tenuta -- is likely to take a step back. It would be surprising if the Jackets reach .500 and they could suffer a couple of embarrassing losses along the way.

I see he didn't do any research on why our players departed.

Research? What does that word mean? Wait a minute, let me look that word up.

Hmmm...It means to search. Search what? I found my underpants (frilly) and socks (pantyhose) this morning. What else would anybody want to search for.

Sorry, I don't understand.

He also left off the fact that we have Morgan Burnett, AT Barnes, and JWD returning in the defensive backfield.

Depleted would mean no returning starters at LB or DB.

One day there will be a journalist that writes for a big time publication and who is not consistently a dumbass/douchebag.

That, to me, is really a low blow, even against Kyle. Mandel sucks at life.

and Kyle sucks his own penis, after he cut it off because he was unable to reach otherwise

after all, he is only 12

Kylie deserves all the bashing he gets, and then some

...and you're bashing someone else for being a bad poster? LOL

Oh brother, that reports wasn't that big a deal.

You know, imagine yourself a sportswriter. Now imagine every team out there wants to hear good exciting we're #1 news. But there just isn't enough to go around; they have to balance their predictions or some jerk fan will notice less losses than wins in their predictions. So when you have opportunities to dog a team, because of the obvious, you take it. No sportswriter is going to get hammered for predicting a weak Tech team this year but actually see a great team later. So most take the opportunity to say negative things this year making the upcoming years all that easier.

And you know what? Look at our WR and A Backs and you'll see a distinct lack of depth, experience and talent. Look at our OL who were recruited for a pro style offense. Look at our very inexperienced Quarterbacks. Those three issues alone raise big time red flags. These sportwriters have the right to write what they think. I hope they are dead wrong but I don't blame them for doing it this year.

I don't see anything wrong with his statement. I disagree with it, but that is beside the point. I am willing to bet that our talent in their first year matches Navy's in year two of PJ's tenure.

The defense may take a step back, but I doubt it. Our D took a step back from 2006. I think we will be at least as good as last year on D.

Our O will not protect field position like it did under Gailey. At the same time, we will score more points. I see us at least being even with last year.

I think we go undefeated at home and pick up at least 1 road game.

I'll agree on the depth and experience (at A-Back it's sort of the same thing as we have enough of them, it's just that 3 are true frosh).

But I like the talent at both positions a lot. Roddy Jones and BeBe Thomas are studs, all three freshman A-backs are very promising, and there are some other good players as well. I know he wasn't a blue chipper and all that but I've been continually impressed with RB Clyburn.

Not sure where your comments about talent are coming from. Certainly we're inexperienced, maybe we lack depth (although it's more accurate to say we lack experienced depth), but how do you know we lack talent?
