Vick permanently thrown off Va. Tech team afetr numerous legal issues and stomping on the knee of Dumervil was obviously the last straw.

VPI may not be the biggest disciplinarians around football, but I commend them for eliminating the problem.

Here's the ESPN link: Hokies Dismiss Vick

I'm glad his older brother was there to see it live.
Somebody in the league will probably take him to return punts or something, but give this guy a big pocketful of cash and look out!

On Friday, it was revealed that Vick had been stopped for speeding and driving with a revoked or suspended license in Hampton on Dec. 17

Vick's license had been taken away in August 2004 when he was cited for reckless driving and marijuana possession in New Kent County.

Steger suspended Vick from school at that time, and warned that any additional problems would effectively end his time as a member of the Hokies' football team.

Why wasn't he suspended in Mid December?
Obviously he meant in August of 2004 that any additional problems would end his time as a member of the Hokies football team after a bowl game.

It's really sad that it had to come to this for him. He was given NUMEROUS opportunities, and screwed everything up. What a waste of talent. Good thing his brother is rich...

He'll probably catch on with some NFL team as well...some seem to think he is a better pro-style passer than Michael. I'd just as soon see them both become running backs, and let the Falcons get a real quarterback.

At least this wastrel will have a wealthy family to lean on. What a dirtbag.

Primadonna Punk. It's good for us though. Next year up there was going to be tough enough.

Did you see the press conference?

Beamer said that Vick told him about the "driving with a revoked license" citation in mid-December. Beamer asked John Balien (who is kind of like Beamer's administrative assistant) to find out what happened. Balien (at the press conference) said he checked it all out with the authorities and it was a little convoluted (Vick had done everything to get his license back, but a car registered to him had not had insurance paid on it. Vick's friend was caught with the car and because there was an insurance problem it showed Vick had a suspended license.) Balien said it was his understanding that it was really administrative in nature and all Vick had to do was pay the insurance for his car, sign a form for DMV and all was OK. That's what he said he told Beamer. Beamer said that he didn't think it was serious - only an administrative issue so he didn't tell Weaver or Steger.

None of them -- Balien, Beamer, Weaver or Steger knew about the speeding violation until it was posted on the Virginia DMV site yesterday. When they became aware of that was when the decision was made to permanently suspend him.

They said it was not one thing but the accumulation of off field problems and unsportsmanlike play.

Beamer also addressed his team as a whole. He said that going into the ACC Championship game, VT was the second least penalized team in the league. But against FSU and in the fist half of the Gator Bowl, VT played stupid and undisciplined. He said that VT has won a lot of games and they didn't win those games by being stupid and undiscplined. He also said that those six quarters of football were not fun for him and he was going to fix the problem. He said it was a small element of the team that has started to grow and he will fix it. He said some players might have to change their attitude and some might have to leave the program -- but it will be fixed.

I hope he's right.

That is one convoluted explanation.

I suppose it is possible, but I don't buy it and I think VT has some serious egg on their face right now.

They are no better than FSU IMHO. Programs I respect don't give three strikes. They give two or one. Worst of all to me is that Vick played on two major IMHO strikes because he was good. If he stunk he would've been gone on either they were so serious IMHO.

Re: That is one convoluted explanation.

Does anyone know if Mike Vick gave all the money he did to the school just before marcus was allowed back?

I actually feel kinda bad for Mike. Having a screwed up brother is one thing!

Dont feel to bad big brother . He caused many of these problems .. Didnt he give Marcus the Bmer to drive and anything else he wanted ?

Re: That is one convoluted explanation.

Just a shame how he couldn't be just appreciative.
Hopefully Mike won't try to exert pressure on the Falcons to sign him if no one else wants to touch him.

I agree that VT has some serious egg...

on their face. They really need to clean up their act. I'm hoping this is a wake up call for Beamer.

OTOH, I don't think it is as pervasive as many here think. I know several guys on that team and they are good guys. What disappoints me more than anything is that the good guys on the team didn't put a stop to the bad behavior.

What is that saying, "All that is necessary for bad things to flourish is for good people to do nothing."

Beamer can fix it and fix it fast if he has the will to do it.

And IMHO I don't think Vick got all those breaks because he was good - I think he got all those breaks because of his brother. I don't really think Vick is all that good. I can't believe he was first team All ACC. I think Hagans was much better than Vick this past year. And I would not be surprised if the VT QB next year is better than Vick also.

For Marcus's sake, I hope he does. The only chance he has of not ending up in a crime ring with Maurice Clarrett and Lawrence Phillips is if he can have someone around him who can keep him in line. I don't know who would do a better job than his brother.

Re: That is one convoluted explanation.

I think he will find the big boys a little tougher than the college kids and they will put him in his place after one scrimmage
I would love to see the OL lay down on him
