Now that we have him and he has practiced with us part of a season, is he the real deal or a work in progress? It sure would be nice if we had another breakaway A back.
I think he returned a KO against Va.

Um, I think there is another guy on the team who's name is Emby or Emry, er something like that, who is supposed to be pretty fast too.

Embry Peoples is bigger and faster than Wright, but has been injured. He may be able to play vs FSU.

He did return a kickoff against UVa and he seemed a little tentative to me.

I don't think we've really gotten a glimpse of his afterburners yet. I suppose he's still on KO returns so maybe F$U will get a dose of Mr. Wright.

I would prefer they only get a dose of him once personally.

I hope we're deep enough at A back next year to where we can redshirt him properly. Dude is freaking small.

Man, leave the racist comments on another board. Definitely not cool.

The kid is young. He is a 4 year guy, and I believe w/ conditioning his weight will catch up w/ him, and he will be a pretty good A back. Too early to profile the guy as a player, as he isn't servicable yet.

Word on the streets is that Wright has progressed enough in practice that--combined with lack of depth at A back and B back--his redshirt had to come off.

Also, PJ said in the press conference he felt Luke Cox would HAVE to take some snaps at B Back this Saturday. Perhaps PJ is seeing a larger role for Wright based on UVA film. Maybe not, but we should see more of Wright unless Greg Smith has been making a comeback.

Supposedly Wright's largest liability is ball security. Perhaps this is a function of strength. Wright must be blocking better or PJ wouldn't have him out there.

Get Wright the ball in space and he is a very difficult hombre to deal with. Both Peeples and Wright have sprinters speed. Peeples is top-end faster but Wright looks like he might accelerate faster.

Not sure how they are as recievers. If they can catch then we've got a good foundation at the position along with Roddy and Lockhart when he comes off his redshirt.

PJ said he didn't want to burn his red shirt but was forced to due to lack of depth at B Back and A Back. He had to have Cox play some at B Back, which meant that we needed another A Back for Garner Webb.

It wasn't so much that "he'd progressed enough to start" as it was that there simply weren't enough warm bodies on our team to carry the rock.

We are dreadfully thin at a whole bunch of positions.

If we can get 22 this year and 22 next year, though, we'll have a whole crapton of seniors near PJ's fourth year in the program, though. That'll be awesome.

Beej,

Yep, agree 100% lack of depth caused the shirt to be burned. However, did you hear somewhere that M. Wright had not improved any in practice?

I DEFINITELY heard that he had improved from some insider types, to the extent that PJ is now comfortable playing him.

Interesting though that Lockhardt was ahead of Wright at A back at the end of camp, or at least he got more snaps with the first team. So either PJ really wanted to redshirt Lockhardt badly or Wright had passed Lockhardt on the depth chart.

I understand he's improved, but the level of improvement he'd shown was not the motivator to burn his redshirt. Depth was.

If I see him play more at A back than Greg Smith, then that will be an indicator he's really catching on. As it is, I think we can count the number of snaps he's played on offense on one hand, even including the GW game. It's good to see him in at KO return, though. That'll mean less work our A backs have to do.

Oregon State has a running back named Rodgers (?spelling) who is 5'6" and about 180 lb. I watched the game against SC earlier this year and OS's small guy gave the SC defenders fits, literally running circles around them sometimes. Most of the time, though, he was running right up the middle, too fast and too low for the defenders to stop. The people commenting on Wright's size need to watch this guy.

I'm not worried about his size for rushing, I worry about it for blocking.

If he can learn to cut defenders effectively, he'll be great.
