Mario Butler..

Wonderful point SLJ. Changes can happen. All I'm saying is on our board the kid is a safety. If he helps us at corner, great. But that's not what we are recruiting him as. Like I said.. Panther is not rendering an opinion as to what position he SHOULD play. Panther is giving you knowledge on what position the coaches will start him at.

10-4! I hear ya loud and clear. Unfortunantly I have seen some posts stating how great it would be to get Everson and Butler as 'bookends' and I doubt they have the same information as panther....and Tarrant is listed as a corner.

I hope you understand where I am coming from.

The great thing about Tarrant and Butler is that they aren't limited to being only Safeties or Corners. They have the size and speed combination to play either position without having to put on too terribly much weight.

It's my opinion that Tech has just picked up 'bookend' corners.

MB's coach said that he has the size and strength to play safety. If you listen to his interview he says that he cleans 300 lbs!!!! So I think he may be our Greg Blue!!! MB is gonna be layin the Wood!!!!

Sorry. replied w/o reading the other posts. i guess tarrant will be our g. blue. we'll see. it's great to have the options though. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blue.gif

[/ QUOTE ] No offense, but if the staff decides to go that direction with Butler or Tarrant, I hope either/or/both is better than Greg Blue. If you're going to compare to the UGAg safeties, at least compare him to Thomas Davis. Greg Blue is a slightly above average college player.

Both of those two guys would make good tattoo artists. They can both bring the smelling salts and stars.

He could hit. period. he kept calvin from catching that TD at the end of the game. pass int. BUT kept us from tyeing and about took his head off--- so he was good enough.

I think Butler is going to be a safety and the other two at corners, but I could be wrong. And remember, we have needs at SS too. Shane Bowen could play SS in my opinion, but we really need someone who can drop back into coverage. Especially since Gaston is injured.

Anyone got any ideas as to what the fall depth chart will look like for the defensive backs?

I'm guessing here but:

FS: #1) DJ Jones, #2) Avery Roberson
SS: #1)Jamal Lewis, #2) Shane Bowen
CB: #1) Kenny Scott, #2) Tony Clark
CB: #1) Jahi-Word Daniels #1a) Laurence Marius

Marius could start immediately if he's everything they say he is, but late Spring Jahi looked to be improving a lot.

Some have said that Tony Clark could move to SS, and we can keep Jamal at the other CB spot, but who knows. We are razor thin and need help from the Marius badly. Pat Clark is the unknown here, he was really good and bad in Spring practice apparently. He could very well get a lot of playing time at CB, and if he's good enough to contribute, then I definately think Jamal Lewis plays SS. Especially because he likes to hit.

Ok, so Blue could hit. It didn't help him when guys were running (excuse me, blowing) by him - like in the Auburn and West Va games (and there are probably more).

I think BOR nailed it as far as starters go. I think once Pat Clark becomes more comfortable with the defense he'll be in the thick of things. He showed some good defensive instincts in the spring and was fast at breaking to the ball.

True. There are definitely better(i.e. Thomas) but my point is that we haven't had that guy that everybody is afraid of the last few years and i'm hoping that soon we will. The guy where the receiver is going to think once twice three times b4 catching that ball over the middle. Where he's cringing up expecting that tooth-rattler. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Well, Blue did most of his best hitting on guys running the ball not WRs coming across the middle. Landry was every bit the hitter/run game stopper that Blue was.

The last GT guy I can think of that fits your description is Chris Young.

I think you are pretty close on the Young comparison, but Young was a better football player.
Greg Blue was an enforcer and did a good job laying the wood to people. He couldn't cover me though. Young could.
