Mark Bradley asserts PH may be further off course than CG....

What concerns me most about Hewitt's teams is that we typically don't play good fundamental basketball. With all the emphasis on individual teaching, why can't we dribble, pass and get good position on the court?

I hardly realized that he was 51-61 in ACC play...now to lose to lowly UNC-Greensboro in the home opener (they were 0-24 against ACC opponents).

Never really been a PH fan (reasons: no defense, no fundementals, no offense oh and can't throw the ball in from out of bounds)

But 10 games below .500 I can't believe there isn't more pressure on him. Does playing in the championship game buy that much time?

I think it's that every year there's that window of time where we look like we're primed for a run and people remember how unlikely our Final Four was in '04 and suddenly "Anything is possible."

I like PH, but I get really frustrated watching his teams sometimes. I wouldn't call this year a make or break season or anything, but I think if we don't make the tournament and play well this year, then the murmuring will start in earnest.

The pass, dribble, and shoot comment was dead on. When you recruit at this level, those should be a given. You then coach from that point forward. An eighth grade girls team can do all three of these fundamentals.

I agree with everything except the defense. We usually play pretty good D. I think his emphasis on defense in recruiting is part of the problem. Recruiting athletes that aren't neccesarily skilled b-ball players. Not the whole problem for sure but part of the problem.

Yep, the championship run bought him time and popularity. If he isn't above .500 in the ACC this year, and doesn't make the NCAA tourney, he should be shown the door; but I doubt he will be.

I'm not happy with the current state of our hoops program and I think Hewitt has pissed away a lot of talent with his piss-poor in-game coaching, but that championship game bought him ten years in my book.

we'll never fire Paul Hewitt. He has too many connections, he'll sue us and call the NAACP. I think he's the president of the nat'l black college coaches assoc. or whatever it's called.

Hewitt is a good guy that says good things and represents the I well. He gets a pass for a while. Wait, was it Hewitt or Gailey I was talking about?

Pop quiz - Since the 16 game conference schedule, how many times has GT ever finished above .500 in the ACC?

Surprising statistic for those who haven't heard it.

wihtout looking i would guess the freak's (starbury)frosh year, maybe 93 befoe that, and then the national championship year.

so I'd guess 3. Gt basketball has never really done that much since 1990. We're a very average basketball progam with one very good team in the last 17 years.

I've often said GT football has been more successful in the last 17 years by far then Gt basketball.

I think hewitt can do some good things here but the more time he has the more it looks like he'll do it through recruting and not through actual coaching/teaching.

One thing's for sure, the pros aren't going to come calling for a few years at least regardless of what a few posters always say.

I never thought I'd see this.....basketball talk in the football forum.

These are all glaring weaknesses of CPH teams with the most glaring being the piss poor defense that this team trots out on the court on any given night. For a guy whose M-O was supposedly defense prior to his arrival at Tech, I am more times than not, miffed at our teams inability to play good, fundamental team defense. The lack of basic "help" defense just continually amazes me. For all the hatred that we have for the Dookies and Coach K, you'd think we could take a page out of their book on how to play "D"....even if it was the back page.
