To be fair, most people pick VPI — we old folks still remember Virginia Tech as the Virginia Polytechnic Institute — to win the Coastal. I’m not among them.

Went to a Braves game with an "older"(late 30's) VPI alum.

He was telling me the story of the first time he ever saw the words "Virginia Tech" and how he wondered if it was some new community college...he had no idea it referred to his alma mater. He still calls it Virginia Poly.

It's amazing how many VPI fans you ask what a hokie is and they can't really explain it....
