Fundamentally, at a time when it was obvious that CFB was operating illegally (“amateurism” when coaches were getting paid as much, if not more, than their professional counterparts), he sat on his ass and did nothing until the Supreme Court played his hand for him.

There were many ways to tackle this situation before it made a mockery of the sport. Some worse than others. He chose “None of the above”. Which was quite literally the worst choice possible.
 
The people in charge of every major sports institution on this planet are destroying their sport for the people who have enjoyed it up until now, and the reason is money/power. Nothing is ever going to stop them, and nothing is ever going to save the sport you love. Enjoy it for as long as you can, and then when you realize you would rather do something else instead, just do that thing instead.

Suicide is another option.
