Martinez Throws Players Under Bus

I keep watching the GT highlights over and over again.

2-3 of our long TD runs would have been just 3-7 yard gains had they tackled instead of just trying to bump our guys out of bounds.

I feel the sarcasm oozing, but you have to admit that he had the same game plan in the first and second halves. The defenders tried to "block" JD and RJ on their TD runs instead of wrapping up the runners. I guess that kind of defensive technique works against the likes Central Michigan, LSU, Auburn, etc, but against the Diesel and the Road Runner it's similar to a game of pin ball that the deaf, dumb and blind leghumpers couldn't compete at.

Its funny how all these great defensive teams become so "bad" againt us.

Fact is, Dwyer is a beast, and very hard to stop. Fact is, a push out of bounds is a VERY GOOD play when the player is running within 2 inches of the sideline. If they had tried to wrap their arms around Roddy, they might have missed him completely. Fact is, Roddy did an AMAZING job keeping his balance. He gets all props for that.

How many times have we watched GT defenders do the same? This is caused by bad coaching at the high school level. They just aren't being taught to wrap up, especially in the secondary.

Everyone looking for the "big hit" instead of doing their job. Unfortunately for the big hitters, if the runner doesn't drop at the slightest touch, bad things tend to happen........or good things depending on ones perspective.

In the Miami game, the commentators said Wommack had the defense do "wrapping" drills after the UNC game. In practice, a play wasn't called dead until a defender had the runner wrapped and pulled down.

Wommack, by the way, did a wonderful job with a patchwork corps of LBs and DBs against a future first-round QB.
