When will this paper ever get someone pro-tech?
I mean the other writers do a great job pointing out how Ugay is the most awesome team ever, every single year. How come we can't get a writer for our team???? And, this year when they do give us one he's Matt? He's not a Tech grad, fan or anything close. For God's sake he rooted for THE ohio state :mad:
Is there no one qualified to write a blog for Tech fans that actually roots for Tech?! Or at least has a clue why we dislike Ugay????

Their favorite is "Dawg-gone ________". It would be nice when we win to actually have our name in the headline.

i'm confused. I thought that was a great blog and quite insightful. I don't see anything wrong with his comments but I do see a lot right.
 
Not sure what you guys are upset about with this article. Everything in it is pretty correct. Except maybe that thing about Bulldog fans not being the most obnoxious in sports. People aren't "on our side" because we suck. Hell, 75% of the people on this board aren't on our side when it comes to predicting who will win Saturday, just go check out the thread.

I'm glad to help with your confusion on the matter.

I'm tired of hearing OUR blogger on AJC put Tech down. He's pretty much saying yeah UGA fans are bad but Tech fans do this this and this...

Screw that. He's not a Tech fan either he's just assigned to them! I don't have to rationalize jack to him. :mad: When do you see a Ugay blogger (all sports writers of Atlanta) say their fans are "disgraceful." That right there "hurts" your recruiting.

IT"S freakin' UGA week. He didn't mention the real reason I hate UGA because he wouldn't get it. I WAS BORN THAT WAY. Yep it's a a in-state rival. It's a huge game. It's bragging rights, it's the most fun out of the football year for me if we win and the worst if we lose. He can only compare it to OSU-MICH... I couldn't care less about that game compared to GT-Ugay! I swear to God, most the time I read him I feel he comments on his kid's games more then he does Tech's.

This pisses me off it's our local paper!! Is it so hard to find a LOYAL fan of GT to write the blog. Someone that echoes our feelings not someone who is just "capable" of writing a blog. Not some idiot who thinks we hate Ugay b/c we have been losing the past few years or because we're hugely outnumbered! Get real! Those are good reasons why we keep hating them but aren't the true reason I hate Ugay. Is it yours THWG? Do you hate Ugay because they have more fans than we do? Do you only hate them because they currently have a winning streak against us? Is that what got you to hate Ugay, probably not.

I just re-read it again after I posted and found the part that pissed me off to the point of starting a thread about it.
Now, THWG I'm not saying some of the stuff isn't true... All I'm saying is can't we get a beat writer that doesn't MAKE a point to highlight the fact he's not a Tech fan?

I think he was trying to show integrity and say who he is and where his perspective comes from. i would love to have a GT homer at the AUC but mike is SO MUCH better than anything we've had the last 15 years.

He is who he says he is and i think it's safe to say he likes and respects GT more than UGA. read Bark Madley's piece; that's what should make you blood boil. The guy is a real jerk with no integrity.

I read it twice and I'll still trying to figure out the part of what he said that is wrong...
 
My theory: the Georgia Tech-Georgia football game matters more to Tech fans for several reasons, and high on that list are three factors — losing more than winning, being hugely outnumbered and the way Georgia fans behave.

I have to agree with this school of thought. I have read far, far harder criticism on the Tech boards and AJC blogs from Tech fans than I read in this article. And just because the truth hurts doesn't mean it isn't the truth.

It seems to me that the best thing we could do is to (1) win and (2) behave as good winners. In the unlikely event that we do not win (blunders like last year), then let's at least be good losers -- except to those low life, bottom-dwelling, scum-sucking, smack-talking inbreds who come to our board oozing their tripe.
 
I'm usually not one of those bash-AJC type guys, but I have to pile on with this piece.

First of all, none of it was clearly wrong about anything. That's not the point. He slanted it completely in the favor of "Yeah, GT is the little brother of this state. They have a complete minority complex. Go Dawgs! Wooh wooh wooh!"

In particular, his talk of the BC game especially put Tech in a bad light while he shuffled UGA's obnoxiousness under the floor. While the BC game wasn't Tech's best moment, similar things would happen at just about any heated contest with officiating that horrendous. I've personally seen FAR worse.

And everything else he says portrays Tech as a team about to go off the rails. He mentions everything bad about the season while mentioning none of the good. I admit we could have done better this year, but some teams are doing far worse than 7-4 this year. I'll state it another way; if he took the same approach to UGA, he'd mention their shellacking by Tennessee, that Tebow was injured in the Florida game and that they beat Troy by ten at home.

Finally, Matt also didn't mention the reason we hate UGA: well, because they're our damn rival. I doubt I would find articles in Birmingham's paper about why Alabama hates Auburn, even though Bama has lost five straight. No, controlling your territory comes with college football and there's really no other end to our hate.

By the way, although I just went on a rant, I'm honestly not a guy to get riled about the AJC. I typically don't even open these AJC threads and I' usually just respond by not buying their papers. This time, though, I wanted to make it emphatically clear that this column was wrongly argued and gave the wrong impression about Tech.
