NFLPA calls for 'immediate replacement and ban' from slit-firm turf fields

NFL Players Association president JC Tretter wrote an open letter calling for the NFL to enact the "immediate replacement and ban" of slit-firm turf fields.

The Legion NXT is a slit film type fake turf. It’s dangerous and should be banned per the NFLPA. Tech should remove it immediately if it had the safety of student athletes in mind.

Humans evolved over millions of years to run on grass. Grass evolved over millions of years to deal with the elements. (Or if you prefer, God made grass for humans to run on, and God made grass able to deal with the elements.)

Then some people have the hubris to think they are going to make a better surface for running around on using plastic and stuff. Not saying it isn't doable but of course it's hard and people should've been a lot more skeptical.

Let’s pull it up and cancel the remaining two games. Sure they’re away games, but that didn’t stop UCF from cancelling an away game because of home weather.

We evolved so well that we spend hundreds of dollars to wrap our feet in plastic to run at all.
 
I read the article and I didn’t see any technical details of why one type of field is worse than others from an injury standpoint.
