Maybe what\'s happening is this.....

Just thinking out loud here...

The obvious thing to do when you have a freshman QB, and good, not great, running backs and receivers, but an experienced highly touted O-line would be to keep the playbook limited and simple and try to let the o-line do their thing while the QB gets up to speed. Run a conservative, methodical offense that will minimize errors, and let the defense carry you.

Well and good, it almost worked against BYU, worked to perfection against AU, and worked against FSU. Then Clemson comes to town and they've got it figured out, plus the team has an emotional let down and the result is a blow-out.

However, it did work against two ranked teams, so let's keep it going and work out the kinks against a "lesser" opponent. Unfortunately, limited and simple also means predictable and we just ain't got the horses to cram conservative down any opponent's throat.

So now, with another ranked opponent coming to town, you've got a QB that ain't quite a rookie anymore, the team has 5 games of experience playing together, and abilities and weaknesses are being evaluated.

So maybe, just maybe, you put in a fast-moving, spread, no-huddle, or off-beat offensive plan, expecting that there will be mistakes made, but hoping against hope that the plays will rely on the individual player's strengths collectively and big plays will make up for big mistakes. You certainly wouldn't do it for the first game of the year....nor attempt something like this against the highly ranked opponents in game 2 or 3....but now with a more experienced team that's struggling with teams that have film on us, you feel like you can implement something wide open........

Maybe, just maybe.....

That's a fair assessment and I feel the same way that we'll open it up even more. For it to work for us, our timing on the routes has got to be perfect. And no passes in the dirt.
