Medical Redshirting Possibilities

I saw further down the board where Will Heller may seek a medical redshirt, since he was not redshirted before. And yes, I know that technically since he played in the fourth game that he's ineligible, but the poster said he may still seek it if he can not play again this year.

So, I have two questions...

1) Is Heller's med. redshirt really possible? Will the NCAA be gracious enough to grant him that? (For Will's sake, I hope he comes back this year and doesn't have to worry about it.)

and...
2) Could Hollings consider seeking something like this? According to ramblinwreck.com, he was not redshirted either. I'd imagine that Tony would love to not lose a year for just these few games, especially with such a promising career. Perhaps his best argument would be that most don't come back 100% from ACL surgery until about 18 months afterwards(that's what I've heard, can someone confirm?), so he would need the 2004 season to really show NFL scouts what he can do.

This was kinda jumbled thought, but maybe the NCAA will show some compassion for some great men and great athletes... Heller (if needed), Hollings, and of course we can't forget Greg Gathers.

What do y'all think?

NCAA? Compassion? Common Sense? Are you kidding?
