GaTech has rarely been able to match up with its opponents physically game in game out, year after year. When you consider that within 5hrs drive of Hotlanta we compete for athletes with FSU,Clemson,Fla,Ugag,Tn,Ala,Aub,SC. This does not discount that we have had awesome athletes on the Flats.

What has differentiated the Jackets EVERY year from these lesser universities has been the mental preparation and mental discipline despite great odds. Go with me to Sanford Stadium on a rainy day in 1974 and we absolutley destroyed a superior team 34-14. Watch what they do to Number 1 Notre Dame or Alabama in the late 70's early 80's. Go with me to Charlottesville in 1990 and watch an unknown coach and team knock off the number one team in the country in their house despite the fact that Virginia had 4 first and second round picks in the NFL draft. With amusement go back and review the many times Friedgen completely befuddled Ugag and FSU. Over and over Tech has taken guys 5-8 180 or 6-2 260 and spanked the competition. Not as consistently as we fans would have wanted, but that is okay.

What has greatly disappointed me in following this Board is the complete lack of discipline or mental preparation exhibited by some. Those of you who think that GOL or Macwhorter could have done better this year are obviously doing serious drug abuse. I respect your thoughts but dang, get tough mentally. We are two plays from an undefeated season. Sometimes the ball is not called a fumble (Ugag 1999) Sometimes the wide receiver doesn't catch it with one hand (Clemson 2000)Sometimes we don't get teams when they are down (Nebraska 1990) and absolutely none of it is the coaches or players fault.

To those of you who continue to snipe or complain, beside getting a life, how about getting a little tougher mentally. We are going to pull this season out, we are going to recruit, and we are going to win. After all mind over matter. The best is yet to come.

GREAT post, GREAT attitude, and GREAT perspective!!!

Well, I am still waiting to see some great mental preparation this season. I sure haven't seen any great mental exhibition on Gailey's part..to wit: The time out at Clemson; Not running Hollings more at Clemson; the fourth and 6 inch decision to punt in the Wake game; The total lack of preparation for Wake; the failure of adjustments vs Wake and the overall failure of "up-coaching" our QB's.
All against a backkdrop of Gailey taking NO blame for anything and seemingly not concerned about the progress of this team. I sure hope we see a better prepared, more intense effort tonight or it could get ugly early!

high expectations is my drug and boy has coming down from it been a drag. my withdrawls have been lasting from saturday evenings thru to monday afternoon after i have finished explaining (cussing) with coworkers about what is wrong with my yellowjackets
