Mercer Added to 2026 Schedule

Good get. In-state school. A better FCS school so that it's a better test. A good scheduling blend of blue chips and lesser opponents.

Mike Jacobs is a great coach and doing good things there but Key has us going in a solid direction to even worry about losing this one. Also, Jacobs will be poached by somebody before then so it should be an easier game than it already is

Would it be incorrect to assume that playing the in-state guys creates a lot of goodwill (and a nice paycheck for them)?

I actually saw Mercer in action this past Saturday at Bryant Denny. They're not as small as you would think. Yeah, Bama had their way but they're 9-2, and first in their conference (with one of those losses from Bama). I think we would beat them but they wouldn't be as much of a pushover as VMI.

I think it absolutely makes sense to schedule in-state out of conference when you can. I’d love to put Ga Southern back on. Lots more interest than say VMI. Good for ticket sales. And if you are scared you need to find something else to do with your time.

What was our easiest schedule in recent memory? 2012?
2025 or 2026.

But probably 2016 (OOC Mercer, Vandy, Georgia Southern).

Lots of GS alum in the area. More of us would go to see GS play GT than we would for GSU. From where I was sitting in the letterwinner's club then, the place looked pretty packed.

If we can hold onto King / Haynes / Singleton and add some DL pieces in the portal we have the schedule to make a run next year. uga game could be more important than usual next weekend. That would certainly make a statement heading into transfer season.

uga game is always more important than usual.

Nah the uga game is always important. Given that it this year’s game comes at an inflection point for the program (maybe there’s too?) with overlap starting to develop in the recruiting pools and transfer portal now a thing, it’s more important than usual.

Exactly. Just like every year. It’s more important than usual. We öööö up we think otherwise. Excrete the ööööing waste. Win.
